Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2017 La Petite Eglise is poweful and rich in the glass. Dark purplish berry fruit, charcoal, licorice, clove and lavender are some of the many nuances that infuse the 2017 with its distinctly somber personality. Unctuous and racy in feel, with superb density, the 2017 is a decidedly extroverted Pomerol. Tasting it from bottle, I have the same impression I did en primeur: it is easily better than many top bottlings. |

Jeb Dunnuck (95)A gorgeous second wine from this brilliant family estate, the 2023 La Petite Eglise is based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that was aged in 82% new French oak. Ripe black cherries, melted licorice, graphite, smoked tobacco, and hints of truffly earth all shine on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a round, layered mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It has an almost salty quality on the finish and is a pleasure to drink today yet will evolve nicely over the coming two decades. Drink 2026-2046. |

Vinous - Ian D'Agata (86-88)Dark ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of dark berries, mocha and vanilla. Big, rich and dense; starts off with lovely sweetness to its violet and black cherry flavors, then turns a bit austere and increasingly tannic at the back, finishing with a repeating floral note. The slightly tough tannins are a real shame, since they detract from what seems to be a wine of above-average density and weight in 2013. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)The 2020 La Pointe has a well-defined, quite mineral-driven bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. Black cherries, raspberry and subtle violet scents, gaining intensity with aeration. The bottle opened at the château with Eric Monneret shows more graphite/pencil lead elements. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, linear in style, fresh with a vibrant saline finish. I appreciate the manner in which it fans out. Subtle but satisfying, this is a sophisticated Pomerol that adroitly expresses its sense of place. |
