Wine Advocate (93+)Mugnier's 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées is pretty and fine-boned, wafting from the glass with notes of sweet red berries, peonies and orange zest, framed by an extremely discreet patina of sweet oak. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a cool core of fruit, melting tannins and a saline finish, its structural charm renders it deceptively approachable, even if I think patience is in fact likely to be rewarded. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)A fine mid purple, the bouquet follows in the path of the village Chambolle but with much greater density. Splendid purity once again with an almost haunting quality of fruit, ripe cherries, fresh strawberry and persistent raspberry, with a fresh spicy finish. Very persistent. Drink from 2032-2040. |

Vinous (91)Bright medium red. Compelling perfume of raspberry, flowers, game and leather, still with a touch of reduction. Tactile and vibrant in the mouth, with complex flavors of red berries, flowers and flint accented by soil and light veggie nuances. Not as thick as the young 2015 but a wonderfully expressive and complete village wine. Finishes saline and sweet, with fine-grained tannins and superb length and soil character. Frederic Mugnier noted that this wine can be kept for a long time but emphasized that it doesn't benefit as much from aging as the crus do. |

Burghound (91)(from two different parcels of vines, one .56 ha parcel located in the premier cru Les Plantes, which was planted in 1968 and the second from a .77 ha holding in the villages-level portion of La Combe d’Orveau, 60% of which is young vines, and the remainder is 40+ year old vines; the split is about 55% La Combe d’Orveau and 45% Les Plantes). A ripe, fresh and elegant array is comprised by notes of red and dark currant, spice and a violet top note plus an interesting hint of orange peel. The beautifully textured and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors possess a lovely innate tension that carries over to the youthfully austere, balanced, minerally and impressively long finale. This is an excellent Chambolle villages. |

Vinous (94)A complex and seductive nose of spice and herbs leads to a round and ripe mouthful of raspberry and black cherry fruit. I have had mixed experience with this wine, but this bottle was delicious and probably at its peak. A touch of acidity on the finish suggests it may be better sooner rather than later. |

Vinous (89+)More complex aromas of strawberry, smoke, minerals, truffle and coffee. Larger-scaled and riper in the mouth; also considerably fresher than the Bonnes-Mares. But backward today, and faintly medicinal on the finish. The tannins build with aeration. This will need time. |

Vinous (98)A spellbinding bottle of Mugnier’s 1999 Musigny Grand Cru rounds out the evening. So complex and beguiling, the 1999 is at once light on its feet and quite deep, with terrific freshness and breathtaking balance. Aeration brings out further layers of dimension. The 1999 is at times quite cerebral, while in other moments it is more overtly virile. Like all truly great wines, every taste reveal a different facet of its personality. What a thrill it is to drink this with a group of my closest friends. |
