The Wine Independent (94+)Aromes de Pavie comes from new parcels purchased in 2017 (on top of the plateau). As from 2018, it is no longer a second wine, per se, as these are dedicated parcels for Aromes, giving it its own identity. The 2019 Aromes de Pavie is composed of 65% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple colored, it strides out confidently with notes of baked black plums, blackberry preserves, and chocolate-covered cherries, leading to hints of pencil lead, cardamom, and rose oil. Full-bodied, voluptuous, and super-plush, the palate is chock full of juicy black fruits with a spicy undercurrent and plush tannins, finishing with a refreshing lift and lots of mineral sparks. This impressive wine should age very well. |

Decanter (96)Leather, chocolate, toast and soft floral tones on the nose with hints of spice and blueberries. Ripe, round and powerful on the palate, with fleshy tannins that fill and cushion the mouth. Sharper acidity than 2018 or 2019 gives energy and drive. Racy and sophisticated, though still somewhat closed. Blackcurrant, cherry, plum, liquorice and tobacco linger with cinnamon warmth. Textured, vibrant and built for at least 10 more years. |
