Jeb Dunnuck (99)There are two special cuvées from this estate. Looking first at the 2018 Cornas Cuvée Jana, it tastes like the essence of Cornas with its meaty, bloody aromas and flavors of scorched earth, ground pepper, rare steak, iron, cedar, and dark, almost blue fruits. Tight, tannic, and concentrated on the palate, this full-bodied effort packs incredible intensity and power yet stays lively, elegant, and weightless. It's a brilliant, brilliant Cornas, yet certainly not for those seeking instant gratification. It actually reminds me slightly of the incredibly age-worthy wines from Domaine Clape, and I suspect it will have a similar evolution. Hide bottles for 7-8 years and enjoy over the following two decades. |

Jeb Dunnuck (98)Only made in top vintages, the 2018 Cornas Mère Michel is a tribute to Johann's wife and a play on the French song "La Mere Michelle." Wine Advocate (97)Always showing well (which is a trait of the vintage), the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Pure is about as sexy as wine gets. Just layered with notions of sweet kirsch liqueur, raspberries, ground pepper, herbes de Provence and licorice, it's a wine I could see rating a few points higher if it wasn't in a retrospective lineup like this. Wine Advocate (100)A wine that will rival the '05 in another handful of years, the utterly profound 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Pure offers the most purity and precision of any of the cuvees, yet backs it up with incredible concentration and depth. Giving up tons of blackberry, kirsch, black cherries, pepper, ground herbs and licorice, it's impeccably balanced and manages somehow to deliver an insane amount of fruit and texture in a lively, graceful and elegant style. Grenache at its finest, give bottles 2-3 years and count yourself lucky anytime you're able to drink this elixir. It should have 20-25 years of longevity. |

Jeb Dunnuck (95)Offering more kirsch liqueur, lavender, incense and sweet spice, the 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pure is another gorgeous, balanced, seamless beauty. Fine tannin, full-bodied richness, and solid freshness all develop in the glass, and it has a great finish. Like the traditional cuvée, it's elegant, long, and will keep for 15+ years. Wine Advocate (99)There are nearly 300 cases of the nectar that is the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Pure. Produced from 100+-year-old Grenache vines grown in sandy soils, simply put, it's just awesome juice. A kaleidoscope of red fruits—cherries, raspberries and strawberries—swirl languorously across the palate, boasting great intensity while seeming weightless at the same time. Hints of dried herbs and spices add complexity to this luscious concoction, which must be tasted to be believed. Silky and endless, and showing no alcoholic heat on the finish, it's the poster child for great Grenache. Am I being too conservative at 99 points? |

Wine Advocate (97)Always showing well (which is a trait of the vintage), the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Pure is about as sexy as wine gets. Just layered with notions of sweet kirsch liqueur, raspberries, ground pepper, herbes de Provence and licorice, it's a wine I could see rating a few points higher if it wasn't in a retrospective lineup like this. Silky, seamless, full-bodied and perfectly balanced, with fine tannin and a blockbuster finish, drink it anytime over the coming 15 years. |

Vinous (93-95)Bright violet. Highly fragrant raspberry, boysenberry, floral pastille and Asian spice scents show excellent clarity and pick up a smoky mineral quality with air. Deeply concentrated but shockingly lithe red and dark berry flavors reach every corner of the palate and show no rough edges. Candied lavender and spicecake qualities emerge on an impressively long, focused and subtly tannic finish that emphatically echoes the blue fruit note. |

This cuvée is always from the same parcel located at the intersection of the le Grand Pierre, le Pointu and Rayas lieux-dits, is fermented all in concrete and spends 18 months in a single foudre. There are only 250 cases produced and it’s year in, year out, one of the greatest Grenache’s made in the world. |

Vinous - Josh Raynolds (95-97)Lurid ruby-red. Powerful Chambord, cherry pastry, incense, lavender and spicecake aromas show sharp definition and pick up a lively mineral nuance as the wine opens up. Sweet and seamless on the palate, offering deeply concentrated but energetic raspberry, cherry liqueur, five-spice powder and floral pastille flavors that are given lift by a jolt of juicy acidity. Suavely blends richness and finesse and finishes extremely long and smooth, with resonating florality and spiciness and pliant tannins that lend shape and gentle grip. |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Pure is the standard 100% Grenache, from a single parcel of old vines located at the intersection of the Grand Pierre, Rayas, and Pointu lieux-dits, that was brought up all in a single foudre. Coming from sandy, cooler soils, it offers a surprisingly dark purple hue to go with a stunning nose of black cherry liqueur, wild strawberries, roasted herbs, licorice, graphite, and chalky minerality. Straight-up stunning, with full-bodied richness and a voluptuous, seamless texture carrying awesome tannins and a monster of a finish, this stunning Grenache brings classic power and richness with no sensation of weight or heaviness. It reminds me of the 2005 and is a sensational Châteauneuf du Pape that will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades. Hats off (again) to the genius of the young Julien Barrot! |

Jeb Dunnuck (98)The tiny production 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Pure is all Grenache brought up in a single foudre. It's slightly lighter-hued than the base cuvée (which is normal) and offers a heavenly perfume of black cherries, kirsch liqueur, roasted garrigue, Asian spices, licorice, and graphite. This carries to a full-bodied Châteauneuf du Pape revealing remarkable elegance and purity, ultra-fine tannins, perfect balance, and a great, great finish. I'm not sure it has the same level of grandeur as the 2019, but it’s not far off, and time will tell. Regardless, this beauty has everything you could want in a great wine: richness, power, elegance, and complexity. It's a true “Wow” wine in every regard and will shine for 15-20 years. |
