Vinous (93)Pale golden yellow. Unctuous bouquet of apple blossom, candied lemon, lanolin and clover. Creamy yet refined, with the apricot pit flavor retaining a juicy, mouthwatering freshness. Finishes strong and succulent, with tropical fruits and toasted almond. In this warm vintage, most of the beautiful concentration in this superb late-harvest chenin blanc was a result of desiccation of the grapes rather than botrytis. |

Vinous (96)It might be delicate but the 2020 Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux is also rather succulent, coating the mouth with its sweet embrace. A combination of white flowers and nectarine creates an appealing perfume. There's a sense of energy that runs through the wine, providing a sense of direction and purpose. The core of sweetness (50–60g/L) doesn't tip over into lushness but is held together by its acidity and structure. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2018 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux Première Trie is deep and intense yet pure and chalky on the distinctive, slightly flinty and yeasty nougat-scented nose. Vital, vibrantly fresh and tight yet fine and pure on the playful palate, this is an intense, sweet and impressively rich Chenin with tension, salt and finesse as well as fine but grippy tannins. This is an exciting Haut-Lieu that is already dangerously ready to drink but will become even more complex and dimensioned with bottle age. Definitely the Haut-Lieu of the vintage! Tasted in May 2019. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2017 Vouvray Le Mont Demi-Sec displays a beautifully pure, precise, flinty and crunchy bouquet of perfectly ripe and healthy fruits. Round, lush and precise on the crystalline palate, this is a highly refined, elegant, enormously lush and sexy Vouvray with great finesse but also tension and lingering salinity. Tightly structured and full of terroir expression, this is the 2017 you shouldn't miss. A great wine! Tasted in March 2019. |

Wine Advocate (90)The 1997 Vouvray Moelleux Le Mont reveals a touch of gold to its otherwise straw color. It offers a nose of deeply honeyed chalk with hints of botrytis as well as a complex, quince, candied almond, and acacia blossom-flavored personality. Medium-bodied and exceptionally pure, this wine is rich, flavorful, and simply gorgeous. Drink it over the next 15 years. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2018 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux is clear, deep, pure and flinty on the intense but fine and coolish-mineral nose. Very distinctive! Lush and intense but also pure, vital and tensioned on the palate, this elegant and seductive Le Mont offers a straightforward drive and a highly complex and energetic finish with grip and great mineral tension. A gorgeous, crystalline, persistently salty and tightly woven Chenin with great complexity and energy. Very attractive already today! Tasted in May 2019. |

Wine Advocate (94)According to Sarah Hwang, 2022 marked “the earliest harvest—we started on the 7th of September and finished on the 17th of October.” Indeed, the 2022 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux reflects the vintage’s warm conditions with a ripe, complex bouquet of pear, white peach, exotic fruits, kumquat and floral notes. Medium- to full-bodied, it is concentrated and structured yet retains a sense of poise and lift. A delicately fleshy core of fruit is framed by bright acidity, leading to a long, ethereal finish. This is an exquisite and precise wine, particularly impressive given the solar nature of the vintage. Residual sugar: 51 grams per liter. |

Wine Advocate (95+)The 2018 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux Première Trie is pure, deep and flinty on the concentrated nose, with very fine oak, toffee and potted ginger aromas. Lush, sweet and generous yet precise and crystalline on the palate, it features very fine tannins, lingering salinity and positive energy. This is a compact, persistent, tightly woven and stimulating Chenin from the Le Mont terroir that reveals firm, tensioned structure and a young finish with potential to improve and refine. Tasted in May 2019. |

Vinous (93)Pure, bright yellow with golden tinges. Very pure aromas and flavors of rose petal, lime, crystallized ginger and brown spices. Hints of smoked beef and aromatic herbs add nuance to the palate, complicating flavors of orange marmalade and spicy herbs. Finishes with excellent length and so much acidity it makes your teeth hurt. I couldn’t get over just how high in acid these 2014 Hugel Gewürzes seemed to be (Gewürz is a notoriously low-acid variety) and Marc Hugel told me that in fact, for no clear reason, these wines had more or less the same acidity levels as the 2010s (2010 is, along with 2008, one of the highest-acid vintages in Alsace memory). |

Wine Advocate (95)The golden-yellow colored 2014 Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive is very clear, precise and elegant on the nose that represents a perfect selection of botrytis, but it's also a fruit-fly vintage that always causes a kind of irritation. Ripe peach and sage aromas intertwined with flinty notes on the intense nose lead to a palate that is rich, sweet and savory as well as elegant and saline, finishing highly stimulating despite the richness. Bottled with 11% stated alcohol and 94 grams per liter of residual sugar, this is a long-distance runner. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024. |

Vinous (89-91)Stony, complex nose features white flowers, mint, quinine, lemon and lime. Rich and dense, with a dusty sense of minerality. As stony as this riesling is, it not at all hard. Finishes very long, with a whiplash of flavor. This comes across as dryer than the Tradition even though it's carrying a few more grams of sugar (10, vs. 7, with the same 13.2% alcohol), due to its stronger mineral character and higher acidity. Will be long-lived. |

Decanter (97)The crown in the Hugel jewels, Schoelhammer comes from 30 rows in the core of Grand Cru Shoenenbourg, high above Riquewihr. An intense, dry and mineral-charged Riesling with floral aromas and concentrated lime/lemon zest flavours. Fermented in neutral oak, this retains absolute purity and clarity of flavour. Bottled in Spring 2012, this vintage was first released in 2018. Still very youthful and with decades ahead. |

Wine Advocate (98)Hugel's 2014 Riesling Schoelhammer opens with a clear and remarkably fine and herbal bouquet that indicates perfectly ripe and concentrated fruit that is reminiscent of ripe mirabelles. On the palate, this is a rich and textural, very elegant and refined yet highly complex and long-lasting Schoenenbourg that combines power with incredible finesse. The finish is very long, stimulating and complex due to the remarkably fine saline acidity. This is a stellar Riesling from Alsace, and although I didn't taste it along with the great 2010, I dare say this is possibly the finest Schoelhammer Hugel has produced so far. 13.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024. |
