The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges du Dessus 1er Cru is showing some oak on the nose, although there is sufficient fruit to support that. This seems to gain purity and delineation in the glass. The well-balanced palate is fleshy, ripe, and quite sweet and tart, with red cherries, blood orange and a citrus element on the silky-smooth finish. This might not be long-term, but it is very well crafted, sensual and alluring. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. GSTSG$1,444.14 -

Hailing from a deep-rooted wine heritage in the prestigious Vosne Romanee region of Burgundy, France, Cecile Tremblay impeccably handcrafts her noble Pinot Noir wines. Unveiling a captivating translucent garnet hue, the 2006 vintage seduces the senses with enchanting fragrances of ripe cherries, tantalising truffles and whispers of silky vanilla. The palate unravels an intricate lacework of polished tannins and bright acidity, culminating in an achingly long, resonant finish. Compiled from old vines ('Vieilles Vignes' or 'VV'), the limited yield ensures a depth of flavour and intensity that's intoxicating.
Perfectly cellared, Cecile Tremblay Vosne Romanee VV 2006 is a testament to the illustrious legacy of Burgundy winemaking—a sovereign in your collection.

(50% vendange entier; bottled in June of 2011, the last '09 to be bottled because this cuvee, says Tremblay, always needs longer elevage to integrate its tannins): Good bright medium red. Serious but discreet nose hints at dark raspberry, licorice and minerals. Concentrated, spicy and minerally but in a rather restrained stage today. Very rich and deep for village wine but will need some time in bottle to absorb some of its substantial ripe, dusty tannins and gain in definition.Inc. GSTSG$10,686.14 -

Good bright red-ruby. Good lift to the aroma of black fruits and violet. Dense, juicy and savory, with a distinctly dark cast to the nicely concentrated flavors of black fruits and violet. Solidly structured, chewy wine with a long, saline aftertaste. Tremblay noted that Vosne-Romanee had considerably less rain in early September than did Chambolle.Inc. GSTSG$1,362.39 -

Good dark red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, violet and minerals, complicated by a hint of bitter chocolate. Juicy and tightly wound; not a sweet or generous style but reveals lovely salinity and subtle dark fruit intensity with aeration. This youthfully reserved village wine is solidly structured but not hard, finishing with firm but even tannins. Ultimately a bit more generous than the Morey-Saint-Denis Très Girard, with the tannins more enrobed by fruit and mineral extract. Tremblay won't do her first racking until she assembles the wines next April in preparation for bottling in July. I take my time, she told me.Inc. GSTSG$1,258.84 -

The 2017 Rosé de Saignée Le Creux d'Enfer is the most seamless, elegant rendition of this cuvée that I've tasted to date. Produced in tiny quantities by the most exacting of methods, this is frequently Bouchard's most extreme wine, but that's not the case this year. Bursting with aromas of red plums, orange oil, buttery pastry, spiced apples and fresh bread, it's full-bodied, ample and satiny, with bright acids and chalky grip, enlivened by a pinpoint mousse and concluding with a broad, delicately honeyed finish.Inc. The NV (2018) Blanc de Noirs Val Vilaine is bright, fresh and wonderfully nuanced. Orchard fruit, citrus and floral notes give the Val Vilaine so much energy. Cédric Bouchard coaxes so much nuance from these 40 year-old vines. The Val Vilaine is always the youngest wine in the range - the current release is the 2018, which spent just 15 months on its lees - but it will give readers who aren't familiar with these wines a very good idea of the house style. Cédric Bouchard's NV Blanc de Noirs Côte de Val Vilaine (2019) is beautiful, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, clear honey, fresh bread, almond paste, white flowers and mirabelle plum. Medium to full-bodied, layered and vinous, it's satiny and textural, with an enveloping core of fruit, superb concentration and incisive acids. Chiseled and penetrating, it concludes with a long, saline finish.
