Wine Advocate (89)This is an opulent, sexy, modern-style St. Emilion possessing deep, super-ripe black cherry and cassis fruit, smoke, and character in a medium-bodied, lush format. It tasted better from bottle than it did out of barrel. The finish is excellent, but with more length, it would have even jumped to the magical 90-point category. Some tannin is noticeable, but this wine is capable of lasting 12-14 years. |

In bottle, it has retained a gorgeous, pure bouquet of blackberry, spicebox, violet and incense aromas, intense but not overpowering, and the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, yet there is backbone and grip. Focused and velvety-smooth, this is an utterly delicious Rol Valentin, one of the finest I have tasted in recent years. |

Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years.
This is a selection of some of our favourite vintages from Bordeaux over the last few decades, as well some more recent ones.
