  • Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2018 (6x150cl)

    Jancis Robinson (17)

Tasted blind. Sweet and polished and quite refined. Fairly Merlot-influenced (though 52% Cabernet). Masses of pleasure here! Even if it’s not for the long term.
  • Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Enthusiast (94)

This is the second wine of Pichon Baron. Its juicy richness echoes the top wine of the estate with its structure and powerful fruits. The texture though has a lightness that means it will mature relatively quickly. Drink from 2026.

  • Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2020 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (93-94)

A punchy red with blackberry and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, yet extremely refined and polished with a long finish. 50% merlot, 42% cabernet sauvignon and 8% petit verdot.

  • Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2021 (3x150cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)

It is the second year in a row that Les Griffons de Pichon Baron contains Petit Verdot (11%). The fragrant bouquet, perhaps more floral than usual, features scents of pencil box, undergrowth, black fruit and just a hint of violet from the Petit Verdot. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, and quite compact compared to the Grand Vin. Linear and strict on the finish despite the 44% Merlot, with good grip. Perhaps just denied the amplitude of a great growing season, but I can see this aging well in bottle.
  • Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2023 (3x150cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)

The 2023 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is elegant and so precise. Bright red-toned fruit, chalk, mint, spice, blood orange and mocha are all finely sculpted. Floral and citrus-driven top notes reappear on a long, sustained finish supported by chalky notes. This is a terrific vintage for the Griffons.

  • Les Hauts de Smith Blanc 2017 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (93)

This is the best ‘just crack on and drink it’ white wine in Bordeaux in my opinion. Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, it’s so full of exotic fruits and fragrant white flowers, with seductive aromatics. Juicy and mouthwatering, easy to enjoy.

  • Les Hauts de Smith Blanc 2020 (6x75cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)

The 2020 Les Hauts de Smith Blanc is a very pretty wine that shows the richer side of Sauvignon Blanc off to great effect. Pear, white peach, tangerine oil and sweet floral notes are nicely delineated. This has come together nicely with élevage. The balance of rich, textured fruit and brightness is impeccable.

    (6x150cl) 2015

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89)

The 2015 Les Hauts du Tertre is a gorgeous second wine. Black cherry, smoke, grilled herbs, licorice, menthol, spice, tobacco infuse this supple, gorgeous Margaux. In 2015, Les Hauts stands out for its superb purity of fruit and fabulous overall balance.
  • Les Hauts du Tertre 2018 (6x75cl)
    (6x75cl) 2018

    Vinous - Neal Martin (86-88)

The 2018 Les Hauts du Tertre has a pretty blackberry and cranberry bouquet, nicely defined though not powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity and some new oak (30%) still to be subsumed on the finish, though there is decent length. This should give several years of drinking pleasure.
  • Les Hauts du Tertre 2019 (6x75cl)
    (6x75cl) 2019

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90-92)

The 2019 Les Hauts du Tertre is an alluring second wine. Deep on the palate, with striking depth and complexity, Les Hauts is absolutely delicious. The aromatics are especially present and give quite a bit of lift to the red berry fruit. This is one of the best editions I can remember tasting of Les Hauts du Tertre. My tasting with General Manager Alexander Van Beek and Estate Manager Lorenzo Pasquini was one of the highlights of several weeks of the Zoom calls all of us will remember from this very particular campaign. At du Tertre, Van Beek and Pasquini have overseen a major redevelopment of about 65% of the property in favor of higher density vineyards. The wines have at times been a bit light, especially in the mid-palate, but the 2019s are quite successful in that regard, in all regards actually. Cuvaison was 21 days at a cool 24 degrees Celcius. Eric Boissenot is the consulting oenologist. Needless to say, it will be fascinating to see what future vintages bring.
  • Les Hauts du Tertre 2021 (6x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (87-89)

The 2021 Les Hauts du Tertre has a perfumed bouquet of blackberry and pencil box scents, nicely detailed and the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied and very Médoc-like, with a peppery opening, good depth, just the right amount of dryness and a tobacco-infused finish. This is a perfectly capable Deuxième Vin to drink over 10 years after bottling.

  • Les Pensees de La Tour Carnet 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (88)

The 2019 Les Pensées de La Tour Carnet feels a little closed and stubborn on the nose and needs more fruit expression. The palate is more expressive and easygoing, offering pliant tannins, well-judged acidity and nicely integrated oak toward the finish. Just give it 12–18 months for the aromatics to shift up a gear.
  • Les Perrieres 2018 (1x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (95)

The 2018 Les Perrières de Lafleur comes from a massal selection of vines from Château Lafleur planted on the clay and limestone soils in Fronsac. Based on 51% Cabernet Franc and 49% Merlot aged 15 months in one-third new French oak, it has a stately, regal style offering medium to full-bodied richness, notes of blackcurrant, black cherries, graphite, chalky minerality, white truffle, and violets, a broad, expansive mouthfeel, and building tannins. It shares a similar elegance and seamlessness with its Pomerol counterpoint, yet the high percentage of Cabernet Franc and different terroir give it a style all its own. It's a beautiful wine that needs 2-4 years of bottle age and will evolve for 15+ years. As I wrote after tasting it from barrel, if you find a bottle, you should buy it!

The 2019 Les Perrières, is driven by strong Franc inflections. Mocha, dried flowers, lavender, rose petal and spice lend gorgeous aromatic intensity throughout. Clean veins of saline minerality from these limestone-rich soils give the 2019 a real sense of energy that is absolutely compelling. This is such a gorgeous wine. I would give the 2019 a few years to come together.

    (1x75cl) 2020

    Vinous - Neal Martin (91)

The 2020 Les Perrières de Lafleur is more backward than the 2019 with blackberry and light estuarine scents plus a dab of shucked oyster shell in the background. The palate is beautifully balanced, gentle but firm in terms of grip, with wonderful poise and density on the finish. This will probably require longer in bottle than the previous vintage, but it will reward the patient. Tasted from ex-château magnum at Kate & Kon's 40-Year vertical in Austria.

    Wine Advocate (94)

The cooler vintage has lent the 2021 Les Perrières de Lafleur an even greater sense of transparency than preceding vintages, even if this bottling has always had a remarkably pronounced site signature. Unfurling in the glass with deep aromas of raspberries, plums, Indian spices, burning embers and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with beautifully refined tannins, lively acids and an intensely mineral finish.

Bordeaux's relatively diverse weather, particularly its rainfall, means that vintage variation can be quite broad between some years. However advances in wine making techniques, technology and investment has meant that many chateaux are still able to create very good wines in "lesser vintages". From the best vintages wines are made that are clambered for all over the world and mature excellently for many years. This is a selection of some of our favourite vintages from Bordeaux over the last few decades, as well some more recent ones.
