Made with guidance from Stéphane Derenoncourt and from a great terroir near the Saint-Emilion/Pomerol border, the 2015 Château La Tour Figeac is a classic effort that offers lots of ripe red and black fruits, tobacco, damp earth and truffle aromas and flavors. It's ripe, polished and balanced, with sweet tannin, integrated acidity, and a clean, classy feel, all of which make it a joy to drink already. Nevertheless, it should be at its best from 2020-2032. Tasted twice.Inc. GSTSG$871.83 -

The 2016 La Tour Figeac offers good fruit intensity and depth. Readers should plan on giving it a few years in bottle, as the tannins are a bit coarse today. Red cherry, plum, espresso and floral notes add complexity throughout. Even so, the tannins retain a toughness that is not likely to ever fully disappear.Inc. GSTSG$456.08 -

Good medium-deep red. Ripe merlot notes of smoky raspberry and mocha dominate the nose. Fat, full and generous; lush and sweet. Very suave wine, with notes of minerals and hot bricks. This is intense with tons of tar and cloves against the well-defined cassis fruits and lovely vibrant violet edging. The silky texture and legs indicate generous alcohol, but this is balanced, if on the larger side. It takes its time in the glass, at first a little overpowering, but it settles into itself and has been well handled offering good ageing potential. There were new owners as of harvest 2018, as French entrepreneur Jérôme Pignard took over from American co-owners; the Gant, Ferenbach and Sachs families.Inc. GSTSG$413.55 -

It's just an impeccably made, satisfying, classic Right Bank beauty to drink over the coming 10-12 years. Bravo!Inc. GSTSG$302.37 -

Medium red-ruby. Utterly captivating aromas of red fruits and iron complicated by an exotic white fruit note that reminded me of viognier. Suave and silky but not at all overly sweet, with a lovely subtle perfumed character in the mouth. Very complex and distinctive 100%-merlot wine in an elegant style. Finishes long and perfumed. This property, located between Le Pin and Trotanoy, was recently purchased by Catherine Pere-Verge, owner of Le Gay. The fruit was destemmed by hand, and the must went directly into barrel for fermentation, with Michel Rolland responsible for the winemaking.Inc. GSTSG$2,797.25 -

Fashioned from yields of 18 hectoliters per hectare with 13.5% natural alcohol, the opaque ruby-hued 2008 exhibits tell-tale floral notes intertwined with raspberries, sweet black cherries, licorice and cassis. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and strikingly pure as well as multilayered, the 2008, despite its precociousness, will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for 20-25 years. It is one of the top successes of the vintage.Inc. GSTSG$4,400.24 -

Wow, did I underrate this wine from cask. I thought it was outstanding, but this wine is one of the superstars of the vintage. An extraordinarily provocative, exotic nose of a florist shop intermixed with raspberry and blueberry liqueur soars from the glass of this very aromatic/fragrant wine. Dense purple in color, with silky tannins, a full-bodied mouthfeel, great nobility and palate penetration, this is a sensational, compelling Pomerol to drink over the next 20-25 years.Inc. The late Madame Pere-Verge owned this little jewel of a property. The stunning 2011 exhibits a beautiful deep ruby/purple color as well as lots of floral notes, and a broad textured opulence that is atypical for the vintage. Fruity and rich, this successful, medium to full-bodied 2011 does not quite match the quality of the 2008, 2009 or 2010, but it is another brilliant effort from La Violette. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.Inc. GSTSG$1,946.13
