Jeb Dunnuck (100)One of the whites of the vintage, the 2020 Château Pape Clément Blanc is based on 62% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Semillon, 4% Sauvignon Gris, and the remaining 1% Muscadelle, all of which was raised in a mix of new and used oak. This beauty stopped me in my tracks and offers a massive nose of honeyed limes, white flowers, tropical fruit, crushed stone, and orange marmalade. With the vintage’s vibrant sense of freshness, full-bodied richness, a stacked mid-palate, and a fabulous mouthfeel, this truly sensational white is an incredible achievement, and hats off to the team at Pape Clement! Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following two decades or so. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89-91)The 2020 Pastourelle de Clerc Milon is soft, supple and inviting, all of which will make it an absolute charmer when it is released in a few years' time. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit are pushed forward. As always, it’s Merlot-based; this vintage has a bit more Cabernet than usual, but that won't be an issue once in bottle. In the past, Pastourelle was shown en primeur, but sold only in bottle, a few years after the vintage, when the team deemed it ready to drink. This is the first vintage that will be offered as futures. |

Jeb Dunnuck (96-98)A blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Château Pavie Decesse comes from the upper plateau, just above Château Pavie, and the soils here are more limestone based, with just a thin layer of clay over the bedrock, which tends to produce a more elegant, ethereal wine. Nevertheless, this brings serious richness and depth as well as full-bodied aromas and flavors of black cherries, currants, bouquet garni, crushed violets, and chalky minerality. Just stunning in every way, it has an expansive texture, the classic purity and elegance this cuvée always shows, and a monster of a finish. |

Pure cassis, ripe black cherries, graphite, spring flowers, and truffly, floral notes all emerge from the glass, and it hits the palate with a seamless, silky, powerful, yet still incredibly elegant profile. It shows the more inward, serious style of the vintage, has building tannins, and a salty, iron-like character, and it has the class to benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and evolve gracefully over the following two decades or more. |
