Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)The 2017 Cantenac Brown has really come together nicely. The typically overt Cantenac Brown style is present in a round, supple Margaux that exudes textural richness and raciness. Dark cherry, spice, chocolate and licorice all flesh out in this wonderfully inviting, supple Margaux, with pretty savory notes that add freshness and energy. This understated wine is all class. |

Jeb Dunnuck (92)This large estate has turned out a classic wine in 2017 that just screams of Saint-Estèphe. Checking in as a rough blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it will spend 18 months in 60% new French oak. Textbook Saint Estèphe dark fruits, damp earth, and tobacco leaf all flow to a medium-bodied, rounded, nicely textured wine that has the cooler, perfumed, aromatics style of the vintage, good mid-palate depth, and gorgeous purity of fruit. Classic Bordeaux lovers will dig this. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2017 Carbonnieux is dark and intense in the glass. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit in this decidedly potent, Pessac-Léognan. Orange peel, incense, spice, sweet tobacco and cedar add a super appealing exotic flair as the 2017 builds with time in the glass. Another few years in bottle should help things come together even more fully. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2017 Carmes de Rieussec is dazzling. Here, too, the winemaking team captured a striking balance of richness and energy. Most second wines from Sauternes these days are light and floral. The Carmes has plenty of those qualities, but it is far from an easygoing Sauternes; rather it packs a serious punch. Lemon confit, passion fruit, exotic flowers and mint meld into the creamy, resonant finish. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)The 2017 Certan de May is a powerful, dense wine. Graphite, smoke, grilled herbs and dark red and purplish fruit confer a real sense of gravitas that also comes through in the wine's unctuous fruit and overall richness. The 2017 packs a serious punch, that is for sure. Although not the last word in finesse, Certan de May offers plenty of richness and body. It is one of the bigger Pomerols of the year. I would give the 2017 a few years in bottle to allow the tannins to soften. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (86-88)The 2017 Chapelle de Potensac is an attractive second wine from Hubert Delon's Médoc property. Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90)The 2017 de Pez is a pleasant Saint-Estèphe to drink now and over the next handful of years. Élevage (12 months in 30% new oak) has brought out a level of finesse the 2017 did not show from barrel. At the same time, while the 2017 has gained in elegance it has also lost some of the richness it showed en primeur. The 2017 is floral, gracious and medium in body, with tobacco and cedar as well as sweet red berry fruit and floral notes that add brightness on the subtle, silky finish. The 2017 is very nicely done, but I find it a bit light in structure; this is a wine to drink on the young side. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (94-96)The 2017 Rayne-Vigneau has been on a roll of late and this latest release has bags of potential. It has a well-defined, quite intense bouquet with perfumed yellow plum and acacia honey aromas wafting from the glass. The palate is very fresh on the entry with crisp acidity. This feels very pure and full of tension, conveying wonderful energy on the honeyed finish with blood orange on the aftertaste. Superb. |

Whilst not the most high profile Saint-Julien property, this du Glana is impressive and might represent the "insiders’ choice". |
