  • Clerc Milon 2016 (6x75cl)

    Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)

Great quality, showing flesh and succulence among plentiful black fruits, brambled hedgerow, salted cracker, oyster shell, pomegranate, cassis. Fresh acidities also, definitely plenty of life ahead, austere on the finish still. Intense and concentrated. Tasted at the estate recently also. Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy director. 55% new oak for ageing. Harvest September 26 to October 15.

    (6x150cl) 2018

    Decanter (96)

The progression of this property continues to be evident in the glass with a beautiful classicism, full of life and layers comprising dark spice and touches of black pepper against blueberry and cool fruits, pumped up by black chocolate and liquorice. It’s confident and clearly has a fierce quality to the tannins giving a long life ahead of it. The harvest started on September 17, one week later than Mouton because of its cooler terroir, with the blend completed by 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmanère.

    (12x37.5cl) 2019

    Wine Advocate (95)

The 2019 Clerc Milon is a real success. At more than 70%, this blend contains one of the highest proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon in the property's recent history, and the result is a wine of real nobility. Offering up aromas of violets, wild berries, licorice, loamy soil and cigar wrapper, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with notable depth at the core, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish. From clay-limestone soils rather than the sandy gravels that characterize d'Armailhac, this is by some margin the more structured and serious of Mouton-Rothschild's two Pauillac stablemates.

The finest example of the château I've tasted, the 2022 Château Clerc Milon is deep purple-hued with a sensational perfume of crème de cassis, spring flowers, spicy oak, and graphite. It's full-bodied, concentrated, has a weightless mouthfeel, and beautiful tannins, all making for a riveting Pauillac. It needs a decade of bottle age to hit prime time, but this is another truly special 2022 that readers should pounce on.

    (12x75cl) 2023

    Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)

Pauillac was close to normal rainfall, with less mildew than other parts of the region, helping to usher in the excellent crop of wines that you will find in the appellation in 2023. This joins the best of them with its superb quality, and a real sense of excitement and drive. Expect vivacity and tension in the blue and black fruits, with liqourice root, squid ink, salted cracker, white pepper spice and freshly cut herbs. September 7 to 29 for harvest, 55% new oak barrels for ageing. Carmanère dating from 1947 is in this 1st wine, with the massal selection descendents in Pastourelle. Caroline Artaud director.

  • Climens Blanc 1929 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (100)

The 1929 Climens is one of the greatest Sauternes of the century, a legendary wine that is faultless. It looks its age with its burnished gold color. Then the bouquet bowls you over with ethereal, intoxicating scents of barley sugar, yellow plum, marmalade and rose water, all with brilliant delineation and energy that seems undimmed by time. The palate hinges on a killer line of acidity and beguiling purity, offering notes of dried honey, peach and dried apricot suffused with astonishing mineral tension. Candied orange peel fans out gloriously on the finish. This is a fabulous, monumental 1929 Sauternes that is indelibly etched on my memory. Tasted blind at a private lunch in London.

I have always loved the 1990 Climens. A little deeper in colour than I remember, it has a gorgeous bouquet of marmalade, Manuka honey, quince and a touch of sugar barley, all finely detailed. The palate is unctuous on the entry with lower acidity than its peers, sumptuous in style with a thickly-textured, ravishing finish that manages to maintain harmony and freshness. This is a Climens that you can lose yourself in. Courtesy of a bottle proffered by Bill Blatch at Trinity restaurant in London.

    Vinous - Neal Martin (95)

The 1995 Climens has a lilting bouquet with lovely scents of wild honey, orange pith and white peach, a hint of saffron emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good vigour, peach and apricot with a superb spine of acidity, building in weight towards quite a spicy, tangerine-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. At its peak.

  • Climens Blanc 1990 (1x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (94)

I have always loved the 1990 Climens. A little deeper in colour than I remember, it has a gorgeous bouquet of marmalade, Manuka honey, quince and a touch of sugar barley, all finely detailed. The palate is unctuous on the entry with lower acidity than its peers, sumptuous in style with a thickly-textured, ravishing finish that manages to maintain harmony and freshness. This is a Climens that you can lose yourself in. Courtesy of a bottle proffered by Bill Blatch at Trinity restaurant in London.

  • Climens Blanc 1995 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 1995

    Vinous - Neal Martin (95)

The 1995 Climens has a lilting bouquet with lovely scents of wild honey, orange pith and white peach, a hint of saffron emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good vigour, peach and apricot with a superb spine of acidity, building in weight towards quite a spicy, tangerine-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. At its peak.
