    Wine Enthusiast (93)

Under the ownership of the Gardinier family, this chateau now rivals some of the classed growths, and deserves its crus bourgeois exceptionnel classification. It is certainly full of new wood flavors, but these are not allowed to dominate dense fruit tannins, flavors of black plums and fine layers of acidity. Will certainly age for 10+ years. Imported by Diageo Chateau & Estates.
  • Phelan Segur 2004 (12x75cl)

  • Phelan Segur 2009 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 2009

    Vinous - Neal Martin (95)

The 2009 Phélan-Ségur has a more generous and slightly more exotic bouquet than its peers with plush red cherry, redcurrant, soy and forest floor aromas that soar from the glass. Thankfully it maintains ample freshness and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, quite firm and slightly chalky tannin with unerring symmetry and tension towards the finish that is pure class. This is an outstanding contribution to the vintage and it surely constitutes one of the best wines ever made at the estate. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

  • Phelan Segur 2011 (6x150cl)
    (6x150cl) 2011

    Wine Spectator (90)

This has good stuffing, with engaging plum, cassis and blackberry coulis flavors at the core, holding steady through the anise-studded finish, accented by hints of charcoal and violet. Reveals a pebbly accent at the very end, keeping this grounded. Best from 2015 through 2022. -JM

    (6x75cl) 2013

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89-92)

The 2013 Phélan Ségur is rich and explosive for the year. Violets, tobacco, smoke, game and graphite all take shape in an exceptionally polished, delineated wine with terrific balance and class among its peers. There is a lot to like here. Tasted twice.
  • Phelan Segur 2015 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (94)

This has an air of authority with pristine red fruits, cassis and leafy aromas that lead to a palate with a powerful core of fine, long and fresh tannins. Plenty of ageing potential here. Try from 2025.
