    (12x75cl) 2005

    Wine Advocate (86)

Dark ruby/purple, with sweet black cherry and blackcurrant fruits as well as some dusty earthiness, this medium-bodied wine displays light to moderate tannin. Drink it over the next 5-8 years.
  • Le Crock 2009 (12x75cl)

    Wine Enthusiast (93)

92-94 Barrel sample. A wine obviously for aging, with its severe tannins and very mineral character. It is dark, brooding, solidly ripe and powerful, with a great waft of final juiciness.

  • Le Crock 2010 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 2010

    Wine Enthusiast (93)

92-94 Big and tannic, very firm and tough. Yet all the fruit is there, offering great potential. There is a ripe, juicy aftertaste. Under the same ownership as Château Léoville-Poyferré in Saint-Julien.
  • Le Crock 2014 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90-92)

The 2014 Le Crock is soft, voluptuous and quite expressive, with the fruit pushed forward and silky tannins to round things out. Today, the flavors are quite primary, but it is the wine's textural harmony and overall balance that stand out most. Hints of plum, crème de cassis, cloves and new leather meld into the inviting finish. Even with all of its richness, the 2014 Le Crock preserves lovely freshness and perfume. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.

  • Le Crock 2016 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 2016

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)

The 2016 Le Crock is a very pretty, fruity wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Bright red cherry and plum fruits are nicely pushed forward in this mid-weight, gracious Saint-Estèphe. All the elements are very nicely balanced. Floral overtones add to the wine's considerable appeal. In 2016, Le Crock is pliant and supple, both of which make it an absolute joy to drink now and over the next handful of years.
  • Le Crock 2017 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (90)

The 2017 Le Crock, always an unfortunate name, is a de facto delicious Saint-Estèphe that will appeal to those seeking a denser, more fruit-driven style in this vintage. It has not really changed since I tasted it from barrel with copious blackberry and raspberry coulis scents on the nose. The 25% new oak is nicely integrated. The palate is weighty and muscular for this vintage with black fruit laced with cedar and hoisin, just a little headiness on the finish. Personally I would afford it another three or four years in bottle.

The 2018 Le Crock offers plenty of Saint-Estèphe character in its brambly red berry fruit and burly, but well-balanced tannins. Cedar, tobacco, smoke and earthy notes add quite a bit of aromatic presence. This is an especially rich, potent edition because of dry, warm east winds that caused dehydration, thereby lowering yields. There is plenty of personality here.

    Wine Advocate (92)

A brilliant effort (along with the 2000, one of the finest I have yet tasted from this estate), this 1,000 case blend of 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot is fashioned by Jonathan Malthus. Most of the Cabernet Franc emerges from a vineyard near Angelus. It possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a striking perfume of menthol, blueberries, red currants, and minerals. Elegant, concentrated, and ripe, but neither overly weighty nor excessively heady, it is a stylish, Burgundian-like, vivacious St.-Emilion with tremendous aromatic complexity and flavors. It should be at its finest in 2-3 years, and last for 14-15.

From the famous flagship estate of Jonathan Malthus, this wine normally has about 75% or more Cabernet Franc in the blend and the rest Merlot. With the great aromatic expression of the vintage, the 2005 Le Dôme offers up a smashing fireworks-like display of spring flowers, blueberries, forest floor, raspberries and cherries. Dense purple in color, medium to full-bodied, light on its feet, but super-intense and rich, this wine performed fabulously well, and is one of the superstars and profound efforts of the vintage. It is actually somewhat approachable, which is not always the case with many 2005s. Drink it over the next 20 years.

    Wine Advocate (98)
