Vinous - Antonio Galloni (98)One of the unquestioned Sleeper jewels of the year, the 2016 Le Prieuré is off the charts beautiful. Silky and impossibly refined, the 2016 is a wine of pure and total precision. Today, the 2016 is a bit more restrained than it was from barrel, when it was a more overt wine. That is not a bad thing, though, as I suspect the 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its finest. Dark, beautifully perfumed and gracious, Le Prieuré represents the height of finesse in Saint-Émilion. Jean-Claude Berrouet consults for the Artemis Group, which is now the sole owner of Le Prieuré. The 2016 is a fabulous wine by any measure. Don't miss it. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (94)The 2022 Le Prieuré, the first vintage overseen by the Calon-Ségur team, offers a more outgoing and opulent bouquet than its stablemate Vray Croix de Gay, with scents of blackberry, potpourri and light tobacco that barrel maturation has tempered. The palate features fine-boned tannins and a fresh, linear style, eschewing the warmth of the vintage and feeling sapid toward the finish. This classy Saint-Émilion will age well in bottle. This is recommended. |

Direct from the verdant vineyards of Bourgogne, France, the Les Gravieres 2015 bewitches the senses with its complex notes and discerning subtleties. Painstakingly crafted by illustrious winemaker Domaine de la Denante, this Pinot Noir exhibits the intimate knowledge of the grape and the cherished terroir of St-Aubin. The alluring melody of French oak ageing composes an opulent symphony, expressing underlying tones of ripe, black cherry swathed in mulled spice and forest floor. Les Gravieres 2015 reflects the particular elegance and balance emblematic of the vintage, celebrated for its excellent ageing potential. Its delicate balance and pronounced minerality testify to the limestone soils of St-Aubin, a quaint village nestled in valleys north-east of Puligny and Chassagne. Exquisite and refined, Les Gravieres 2015 makes a striking encore bottle for the discerning cellar. This is truly the nectar of aficionados, cementing its prestige as a cornerstone of French viticulture. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2016 Les Gravières has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet with crushed violet petals infusing the blackberry and strawberry aromas. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity and hints of salted licorice infusing the black fruit. Good build in the mouth and gentle grip on the finish. Excellent. |

Jeb Dunnuck (94+)I continue to love the wines from this château. The 2019 Château Chauvin shows an impeccably balanced, elegant, yet still concentrated style that's well worth seeking out. Mostly Merlot (there's some Cabernet Franc as well as a tiny amount of Cabernet Sauvignon), its deep purple hue is followed by a clean, pure, medium to full-bodied wine offering classic ripe darker cherry and currant fruits as well as spicy oak, chalky minerality, and hints of tobacco. It's still closed and reserved today, yet the balance is spot on, it has beautifully ripe tannins, and a great mid-palate. It's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and have at least two decades of prime drinking. It's wonderful stuff. |
