Brilliant, poised and confident wine, full of limestone finesse and a creamy texture that has delivered on its En Primeur promise. Fleshy blackberry and raspberry, alongside white pepper spice and saffron spice. A yield of 49hl/ha. The estate was sold from Artemis Domaines to the owners of Calon Ségur in early 2020, so the ageing was overseen by new owners Suravenir, with winemaker Penelope Godefroy remaining in place.Inc. The 2021 Le Prieuré has as well-defined bouquet with lifted, quite floral red berry fruit mixed with subtle loamy scents. The palate is well-defined with finely chiselled tannins, taut and fresh with a sensual finish. Not a powerful Saint-Émilion, yet this continues this estates strong run of form.Inc. GSTSG$807.04 -

The 2022 Le Prieuré, the first vintage overseen by the Calon-Ségur team, offers a more outgoing and opulent bouquet than its stablemate Vray Croix de Gay, with scents of blackberry, potpourri and light tobacco that barrel maturation has tempered. The palate features fine-boned tannins and a fresh, linear style, eschewing the warmth of the vintage and feeling sapid toward the finish. This classy Saint-Émilion will age well in bottle. This is recommended.Inc. GSTSG$145.95 -
Direct from the verdant vineyards of Bourgogne, France, the Les Gravieres 2015 bewitches the senses with its complex notes and discerning subtleties. Painstakingly crafted by illustrious winemaker Domaine de la Denante, this Pinot Noir exhibits the intimate knowledge of the grape and the cherished terroir of St-Aubin. The alluring melody of French oak ageing composes an opulent symphony, expressing underlying tones of ripe, black cherry swathed in mulled spice and forest floor. Les Gravieres 2015 reflects the particular elegance and balance emblematic of the vintage, celebrated for its excellent ageing potential. Its delicate balance and pronounced minerality testify to the limestone soils of St-Aubin, a quaint village nestled in valleys north-east of Puligny and Chassagne. Exquisite and refined, Les Gravieres 2015 makes a striking encore bottle for the discerning cellar. This is truly the nectar of aficionados, cementing its prestige as a cornerstone of French viticulture.

The 2016 Les Gravières has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet with crushed violet petals infusing the blackberry and strawberry aromas. The oak here is nicely integrated. From an estate recently purchased by Sylvie Cazes, who is renovating the estate, the 2015 Château Chauvin checks in as a blend of 80% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, from sandy/clay soils, that was brought up in 60% new barrels. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a pure, elegant bouquet of crème de cassis, damp earth, candle wax, and spring flowers. Rich, concentrated, and seamless on the palate, with terrific elegance, it has ripe, present tannin, good acidity, and is going to age beautifully. Tasted twice.Inc. GSTSG$777.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)
The 2018 Chauvin is rich and generous in the glass, with plenty of black cherry, espresso, menthol, licorice, chocolate and new oak flavors. Beautifully layered and sumptuous, Chauvin is so expressive today. The 2018 is quite lush, but it has enough energy to keep things in balance. Best of all, it will drink well with minimal cellaring.Inc. GSTSG$765.01 -

I continue to love the wines from this château. The 2019 Château Chauvin shows an impeccably balanced, elegant, yet still concentrated style that's well worth seeking out. Mostly Merlot (there's some Cabernet Franc as well as a tiny amount of Cabernet Sauvignon), its deep purple hue is followed by a clean, pure, medium to full-bodied wine offering classic ripe darker cherry and currant fruits as well as spicy oak, chalky minerality, and hints of tobacco. It's still closed and reserved today, yet the balance is spot on, it has beautifully ripe tannins, and a great mid-palate. It's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and have at least two decades of prime drinking. It's wonderful stuff.Inc. GSTSG$668.08 -
Jeb Dunnuck (93-95)
Tasted from multiple bottles, the 2020 Château Chauvin looks to be a superstar and boasts an already complex nose of ripe red and blue fruits, cedary incense, and chalky minerality. Beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, and just about seamless on the palate, it’s a remarkable Saint-Emilion that will benefit from short-term bottle age and cruise for two decades in cold cellars.Inc. The 1964 Cheval Blanc is a legendary wine, and having been privileged to taste it several times, I believe this might well be the finest specimen that I have ever tasted. It's, quite simply, magical. Utterly ethereal on its kaleidoscopic nose, it offers melted red fruit, shavings of black truffle, wilted rose petals and sous-bois. There is an unerring sense of symmetry. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins that frame the millefeuille of red and black fruit, hints of meat juices, clove and truffle. It possesses ethereal poise and fans out with effortless audacity on the finish. This is a bona fide perfect wine that is so good that it's almost impossible to translate into words. Wine Advocate (86)
At one time elegant, lightweight, and pleasant, the 1979 Cheval Blanc continues to develop in an unexciting fashion. The color is light ruby with a watery edge. The nose offers minty, mineral, earthy, herbaceous aromas backed by some berry and coffee-scented fruit. Light and lacking substance, with a short, angular finish, this wine was more enjoyable several years ago. Drink it up. Last tasted, 5/93.Inc. GSTSG$9,247.34 -

This somewhat charming, lightweight Cheval Blanc is fully mature but elegant, with sweet red and black currant fruit intermixed with mineral, licorice, and a hint of herbs. The 1982 Chevel Blanc has a medium garnet-brick color and springs from the glass with scents of kirsch, dried cranberries, and pencil shavings, leading to hints of rose oil, rare steak, and crushed rocks. The medium-bodied palate is packed with mature red fruit and earthy layers, textured with satiny tannins and delivering seamless acidity, finishing on a long-lingering mocha note. Still very youthful, this was clearly a very good bottle, coming directly from the Chateau. The yields in 1982 for Cheval Blanc were a whopping 55 hl/ha, according to Pierre Lurton.Inc.
