The second is cleaner and more focused on the nose with blackberry, briary and light tertiary scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine tannins and well-judged acidity. Ah…this is much more like it. Not long, but its precision really develops nicely in the glass. My score is based on the second bottle. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The NV Trilogie was a fantastic wine, a blend of three vintages of declassified fruit from Le Pin. There are two or three different blends, this one comprising 2013, 2014 and 2015. Again, served blind, I stupidly guessed Saint-Émilion! I know that Jacques Thienpont and Fiona Morrison dislike the speculation that shrouds Trilogie due to its connection. Affordability was their original intention, but you cannot fight market forces and the truth is that this is a delicious, surprisingly complex multi-vintage blend. As one of the only people that ever tasted the declassified 2013 Le Pin, serving as a guinea pig for Jacques on one visit, I can vouchsafe that he made far better use of the fruit that year. |

Here it has a gorgeous bouquet with blackberries, mulberry truffle and clove, demonstrating commendable vigor given its age. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, but quite firm in structure, robed in velvety tannins that gently grip the mouth. There is very fine density here, building towards a muscular finish that displays the style of Trotanoy with much more confidence than the 1989, which seems almost meek by comparison. It is now beginning to reach its peak so there is no need to cellar for longer, yet I can see this drinking well for another 15-20 years. Tasted November 2016. |

Jeb Dunnuck (98)Deep garnet-hued with just a kiss of bricking, the 2000 Château Trotanoy comes from one of my favorite châteaux and is a remarkably complex effort with ripe black fruits, smoked tobacco, iron, and graphite-driven aromatics. It's full-bodied on the palate and has a multi-dimensional mouthfeel, sweet, polished tannins, ample mid-palate volume, and a gorgeous finish. I don't think it quite matches the otherworldly 1998, but this is an absolutely riveting Trotanoy to enjoy over the coming 15+ years. Drink 2026-2041. |
