Expressive on the nose, so aromatic. The palate is so delicious - dense and structured, powerful and muscular but so well packaged. Uber glamour here. Real depth of flavour with lingering spice from the liquorice and sweet cedar, some bitter dark chocolate, floral touches and even soft savoury truffle aspects too. I love it, chewy almost balancing intensity with freshness and just such clarity that you know it's been well worked. Buy and hold on to.Inc. GSTSG$426.65 -

(1x300cl) 2019Decanter (95)
A dark, heady, brooding nose full of violets and blackcurrants. Liquorice, black truffle and scented black cherries are all noticeable straight away, this is quite a bold wine, with at first a chewy, mouthfiling texture then settles to reveal layers of acidity, fruit and freshness as well as more detail to the tannins and overall structure. Very seductive and charming. Still so much potential with all the elements at the fore right now, persistent and driving. Will be excellent to approach in a few years.Inc. GSTSG$988.59 -

The 2019 Taillefer has evolved nicely since I tasted it from barrel. On the nose, vivacious brambly red fruit, Earl Grey, allspice and cedar aromas vie for attention. The 2020 Taillefer was tasted from two bottles. I must confess that the first left me scratching my head and did not rate it. The second is cleaner and more focused on the nose with blackberry, briary and light tertiary scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine tannins and well-judged acidity. The NV Trilogie was a fantastic wine, a blend of three vintages of declassified fruit from Le Pin. There are two or three different blends, this one comprising 2013, 2014 and 2015. Again, served blind, I stupidly guessed Saint-Émilion! I know that Jacques Thienpont and Fiona Morrison dislike the speculation that shrouds Trilogie due to its connection. Affordability was their original intention, but you cannot fight market forces and the truth is that this is a delicious, surprisingly complex multi-vintage blend. As one of the only people that ever tasted the declassified 2013 Le Pin, serving as a guinea pig for Jacques on one visit, I can vouchsafe that he made far better use of the fruit that year.Inc. This wine continues to be one of the most indifferent Trotanoy's made in the last thirty years. I am at a loss to understand why the 1983 is so muted, dull, and monolithic. It possesses a medium-ruby color, and a straightforward, indifferent nose of berry fruit and spices. Shallow but pleasant, with soft, uninspiring flavors presented in a compact, straightforward style, this wine finishes briskly. Given the vintage and the greatness of this vineyard, Trotanoy remains one of 1983's most notable disappointments. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Last tasted, 4/93.Inc. GSTSG$2,758.79 -
