Pessac-Leognan

Located just south of Bordeaux, the Péssac-Léognan AOC is renowned for producing exceptional red and white wines. The area's unique terroir, characterized by gravelly soil, allows for excellent drainage and provides the perfect environment for the cultivation of the region's signature varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for reds and Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for whites. Château Haut-Brion is amongst the most prestigious First Growth in this appellation. Other renowned wineries in the region include the Super Second Château La Mission Haut-Brion, and the fast ascending Château Smith Haut-Lafitte and Domaine de Chevalier, all of which are known for their exceptional red and white blends.

  • Carbonnieux 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (94)

I am so pleased that the 2019 Carbonnieux has retained the engaging aromatics that I found from the barrel sample: copious blackberry, raspberry, incense and light violet aromas soar from the glass. The palate is very well balanced with fine-grained tannins, and much more precise than recent vintages, leading to a harmonious, silky-smooth, almost tender finish. More polished than recent vintages, this Carbonnieux comes highly recommended.

  • Carbonnieux 2020 (12x37.5cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)

The 2020 Carbonnieux is a dark, brooding beauty. Black cherry, gravel, incense, tobacco, smoke, mocha and cured meats build as this deep, layered Pessac-Léognan shows off its considerable personality. I would give the tannins a few years to soften. The mix of fruit richness and energy is compelling.

  • Chateau de France 2020 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (92)

The 2020 Château de France has an absolutely delightful nose: blackberry and bilberry fruit, black olives and subtle spicy scents. Very focused and very composed. The palate is very well balanced with finely-sculpted tannins, well-judged acidity, fine weight and a precise finish that deserves a light round of applause. Maybe the finest wine that I have tasted from the estate.
