Haut-Médoc
Haut-Médoc is a world-renowned wine region located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, home to some of the most prestigious and sought-after wines in the world. The Haut-Médoc appellation covers a vast area of about 4,600 hectares, stretching from the outskirts of Bordeaux to the tip of the Médoc peninsula, and encompassing some of the most iconic appellations in Bordeaux, such as Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, and Saint-Estèphe. These actually account for the majority of the wines produced within the Haut-Médoc and have their own AOC. The more general title is used for vineyards lying outside these communes.
The wines of Haut-Médoc are known for their elegance, complexity, and aging potential, and are made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grapes. The terroir of Haut-Médoc is characterized by gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and reflect the sunlight, producing grapes with intense flavors and aromas.
Whether you're a collector, a connoisseur, or simply a wine lover looking to sample some of the best value vinous delights, Haut-Médoc is the place to be.

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)The 2019 Belle-Vue has come together nicely. Powerful and earthy in the glass, the 2019 Belle-Vue is loaded with character. Tobacco, dried flowers, mint and dried flowers lend quite a bit of aromatic complexity. This super-expressive Haut-Médoc has quite a bit to offer. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90)Good full red. Redcurrant, mocha and cedary, smoky oak on the ripe nose, with a hint of peppery lift. Lush, ripe and concentrated, offering a dense, thick texture for this wine and a hint of salty herbs. Nicely subtle and perfumed in the mouth. Finishes with suave tannins and sneaky length. A sleeper of the vintage, for drinking over the next 15 years. |

Wine Enthusiast (91)Formerly the property of one of Napoleon's generals, this estate is now performing impressively after renovations. This wine is richly structured and packed with black fruits. Dark tannins vie with black currants and ripe spice in this wine that will age well. Drink from 2024. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (92)The 2016 Bibian has a tightly-wound bouquet that demands more coaxing than its peers, eventually revealing pure blackberries, raspberry, cedar and light mint aromas. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very pure and polished with some classy new oak assiduously blended. This is a classy offering and one of the best Cru Bourgeois that I have tasted this vintage. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. |

Jeb Dunnuck (90)Another little gem Cru Bourgeois is the 2015 Château Cambon La Pelouse which comes from close to equal amounts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with roughly 4% Petit Verdot. It offers a darker edge in its blackcurrant, underbrush, tobacco and earthy aromatics, is medium-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and has building tannin. It's absolutely worth seeking out and will drink nicely for a decade or more. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)The 2019 Cambon La Pelouse is a powerful, burly Haut-Médoc. Black cherry, iron, tar, licorice, game, incense and tobacco all add to an impression of gravitas. There's real depth here, along with plenty of character. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (87+)The 2020 Cambon La Pelouse has a touch of over-ripeness on the nose at the expense of the detail of some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit. It shows more finesse than the aromatics with a zesty, quite focused and tensile finish. If the nose can improve, this will certainly deserve a higher score. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (85-88)Medium saturated ruby-red. Aromas of raspberry, espresso, cocoa powder and sexy oak spices. Sweet on entry, then supple in the middle, with an edge of acidity. Finishes with good breadth, tongue-dusting tannins and notes of black fruits and mint. My enthusiasm was tempered by a slight green streak running through the wine. |

Wine Advocate (92)The 2006 Cantemerle was the surprise package of the blind tasting at Farr Vintners' horizontal. It has a conservative nose with rosemary and undergrowth scents that open nicely in the glass, but retain a sense of classicism. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, lightly spiced red berry fruit, sage and white pepper, quite persistent on the finish, which feels very pure. What an outstanding 2006 Claret - a Cantemerle that punches well above its weight. Tasted April 2016. |
