    Vinous (91)

Despite being more than six years old, this structured offering is still a tough nut to crack, remaining resolute and firm. While the gentle midpalate is filled with unadulterated plum, herbal and spice flavors, there is a firm tannic structure, which is emphasized by firm acidity, leaving a rather upright conclusion. This will require patience and a love of acidity. Tea leaves and festive spices linger on the long finish. Unfined and unfiltered, so expect it is to be slightly hazy in color.

    Vinous - Neal Martin (93)

The 2009 Coleraine has a very intense bouquet with blackberry, cassis and crushed violet scents, perhaps a little Margaux-like in style. Again, there is fine delineation and well-integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a dash of black pepper and allspice on the entry. Gentle but insistent grip, quite linear and a little sturdiness towards the finish. This is the more mature vintage that I would unequivocally hold back and by direct comparison, maybe the 2007 has a touch more charm. Tasted from a bottle shipped directly from the estate at the Coleraine vertical in London.
