Wine Advocate (94+)The 2022 Birdsong Shiraz is sourced from old vines in the certified organic and biodynamic vineyard in Greenock. It had a wild ferment in concrete tulips, and the aromatics here lean toward clean concrete, wet slate, blackberry, black tea leaves, dried tobacco, pepper rolled pastrami and charred peanut shells—there's a lot going on. In the mouth, the wine achieves a fruit clarity like a cloudless midnight sky full of stars. It has pure, classy, gritty tannins that feel of the earth and the vine. Chewy. Good! |

James Suckling (93)56% grenache, 35% shiraz and a dollop of mataro for some ferruginous grunt. A savory nose, alluding to smoked meats and wilderness. Think thyme, rosemary and lavender, shoved into a satchel and tipped into a beef daube. A full-weighted wine defined by a sheath of immaculate tannins, chamois of feel, gently reductive, but thoroughly glorious, corralling the dark fruits, while channelling the charge and length. This reminds me of the wines of Chateauneuf's Charvin, before global warming. Great gear! Drink or hold. |

Wine Advocate (95)While the purist in me prefers single-varietal wines, the pleasure seeker (the drinker) loves a blend. Here, in the 2022 Old Quarter GSM, the confluence of varieties creates a soft cushion of flavor in the mouth. This is perhaps not as intellectually driven as some of the Polygon wines, but it undoubtedly has more joy and satisfaction in the glass. There is mineral and fine tannin heaped upon purple fruit and licorice. The tannins are, as with all of the Alkina wines, a prominent feature and yet very finely milled. This is a totally gorgeous wine. I like it a lot. |

Decanter (98)Delicate yet formidable, this wine’s dense, multiple layers of complex texture and flavour speak eloquently. There’s fresh raspberry and graphite, rhubarb and red earth, dark plum and ironstone, and a suggestion of sage and nutmeg among blackberry bite, caressed by fine tannins. Sourced from only 200 vines planted in the 1950s, this 0.27ha micro-terroir boasts red-brown earth over limestone with traces of iron, providing fruit of rare depth and concentration. More sensuous and ethereal that its raw-boned sibling Alkina Polygon 5, but their common characteristic is extraordinary length of the purest flavours. |

The World of Fine Wine (98)Red and purples. There is a complex yet glorious aroma to this wine. Blueberries, spices, chocolate. Wonderfully fragrant. the texture is compellingly supple. Finely balanced and with a pleasing flick of vibrant acidity. Cherries emerge on the palate and a tobacco-leaf/cigar-box note (reminiscent of a fine Cohiba Siglo VI). Chalky the tannins might be, but they quickly dissolve into something wonderfully cushiony and gentle. Elegance personified. A superb Grenache. |

The World of Fine Wine (97)Even darker in colour than No. 3, and the aroma here is a little more closed at even this early stage, not quite as alluring. Warm earth, chocolate, black fruits, a hint of woodsmoke. This is more burly, more concentrated. Excellent complexity. The tannins here are not as cashmere-like - more chalky and firmer, more mouth-coating; perhaps more what one expects from Grenache. Fuller in flavor, great structure, bright acidity, and a very long finish. Another superb wine and again, a great future. Indeed, this would seem to have an even longer-focus than No. 3. |

Jancis Robinson (17.5)The nose has marzipan, honey, beeswax – so much going on. A nutty note underpins the mid palate then gives way to an expansive mid palate, always with a rich honeycomb and nutty note. A very expressive wine with such energy and depth. |

Vinous (93)(from vines reportedly between 85 and 115 years of age) Inky ruby. Spicy blackberry, cherry and dark chocolate on the nose, with complicating notes of espresso and dried violet. Cool and restrained, with a suave, silky tone to the dark fruit flavors and gentle acids bringing freshness and energy. Nothing overdone here. There's impressive clarity and length to the blackberry and blackcurrant flavors. Really gorgeous. |

Halliday Wine Companion (97)From the estate's highest vineyard block situated on the eastern ridge of the Barossa foothills, and is a quite lovely example of shiraz grown in a temperate climate. It's medium-bodied, the bouquet full of spice, red fruits, rose petals and cherry blossom characters all translating straight to the long, supple palate. Tannins and oak are part of the backdrop, simply providing the finish of the wine. |

Halliday Wine Companion (98)It hardly needs be said this is a great Graveyard, shortlisted for Wine of the Year. Its magic is that it remains coherent, with its line (or focus) never compromised. |

Halliday Wine Companion (99)One of Australia's icons. The decision not to use any new French oak, and to limit the alcohol to 13.5%, has resulted in a wine with a unique sense of place. Halliday Wine Companion (99)Pale straw-green - an extraordinary colour of an extraordinary wine. A fragrant bouquet floats out of the glass and introduces a palate that has the best of all worlds: lemon, lemon curd, beeswax and fruit spice with no hint of the searing acidity Hunter Valley semillon can throw at the unwary. Here it is perfectly (and naturally) balanced. A worthy companion to the sublime Graveyard Shiraz '18. |

The Real Review (97)Medium red colour with a trace of purple in the rim. The bouquet is pepper-spicy, stemmy and savoury, with a whiff of new kid leather, while the palate is elegantly structured and yet firm, tremendously intense, taut as a bow-string, and magnificently balanced. This is a stunning pinot of a complex, bunchy style, already drinking well, with more held in reserve. 17 JUN 2020 |

The Real Review (99)Deep crimson colour with a good strong purple tint, and the bouquet is very foresty, with more whole-bunch character than the other Farr pinots this year. Root vegetable, freshly-turned earth and dried flower petal aromas, clean and fresh and deliciously inviting. It's more open than the Côte Vineyard at this stage. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, powerful and emphatic, the ample tannins adding force to the wine's structure and persistence. A majestic wine with tremendous intensity and length that is great now but should also reward cellaring for many years. |
