The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Songbook is another terrific wine from Cliff Lede. It, too, has aged well. The integration of oak is also far better than in the To Kalon, even with the considerable presence of heavily toasted barrels. Inky red fruit, bay leaf, blood orange, white truffle and star anise give the 2015 its wild, exotic personality. The Songbook has aged well and will drink well for another decade plus. One of the best-run and now superstar wineries in all of Napa is Cliff Lede. Starting with their 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap, a beautiful example of this AVA, the wine has a dense ruby/purple color, floral notes intermixed with crème de cassis , graphite and forest floor. It is full bodied, but with the elegance, finesse and lightness of being, despite its intensity. The wood is pushed to the background, and the wine is beautifully pure and long. Drink it over the next 20 years.Inc. GSTSG$1,556.53 -

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District) is a dark, potent wine that perfectly embodies the Cliff Lede style. Black cherry, plum, licorice, dark spice, espresso and menthol add to the wine's dark, virile personality. I would give the 2016 another few years in the cellar to fully come together. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral and spice notes that will be a terrific complement once the wine recovers from its bottling a few months ago.Inc. GSTSG$1,655.49 -

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is striking. Powerful and dense in the glass, with utterly mesmerizing balance, the 2013 hits all the right spots. Graphite, smoke, grilled herbs, black cherries and incense form a tapestry of aromas and flavors that simply dazzles. The 2013 needs time in bottle for the tannins to soften, but it is a real head-turner. The combination of intense tannin and opulent fruit is classic 2013. In 2013, Clos du Val made 33,800 cases (405,600 bottles) of their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a significant amount of wine. Clos du Val bottled the 2013 over a two week period. The passage of time has resulted in some amount of bottle variation, which readers should be aware of. For the money, the 2013 is still a terrific value in Napa Valley Cabernet, but the bottom line is that there is also a noticeable amount of bottle variation.Editor's Note: This review is for the Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, and not one of the other Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings Clos du Val has made over the years. The highlight in this range today, the 2016 Cariad is utterly magnificent. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot give the wine soaring aromatic intensity and striking savoriness to play off the racy, forward fruit. Time in barrel has done wonders to meld all the elements together. Today, the Cariad is dense, explosive and super-expressive. And yet my sense is that the 2016 still has quite a bit of room to grow. Even at this early stage, the 2016 is a total stunner. The symbiosis of David Abreu fruit and Allision Tauziet's winemaking makes for an electric, unforgettable 2016. Don't miss it.Inc. Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95)
The 2014 Cariad is intensely aromatic in its first impression. Dried herbs, menthol, licorice, spice, tobacco and incense all grace this vibrant, expressive edition of Cariad. The softer, more open-knit style of the year is very much on display. Cariad is a blend of fruit from several David Abreu ranches, with Madrona Ranch as the central component. It has always been the most immediate of the Colgin 2014s.In BondSG$3,085.00 -

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 21% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cariad Proprietary Red Wine sports a very deep garnet-purple color and boasts a very savory nose of chargrill, roasted nuts and yeast extract over a core of blackberry pie, blueberry compote, menthol and Indian spices with wafts of violets and underbrush. The palate has very firm, beautifully ripe tannins with a muscular core of black fruits and black licorice, featuring seamless freshness and amazing length. In BondSG$1,625.00 -

Don't miss it.In BondSG$1,895.00 -

What a thrill it is to taste the 2018 Cariad again. Last year the 2018 was magnificent. It is all that this year too. Powerful and explosive, the 2018 is captivating from the very first taste. Healthy dollops of Cabernet Franc and Merlot add layers to this deep, wonderfully vibrant Napa Valley red. In a big morning tasting at Colgin spanning more than a dozen wines, the 2018 Cariad was a stand out. Superb. In BondSG$3,880.00
