Originally planted in 1992, the grapes are grown on the splendid volcanic hillside soils of the Soda Canyon Ranch. The cooler climates and meticulous craftsmanship lend complex nuances to this luscious Merlot. The 2014 vintage brilliantly integrates flavours of fresh black cherry, red currant and spices, with undertones of earthy mushroom and subtle oak. Blessed with velvety tannins, it leaves a lasting impression with a distinguished, lengthy finish. Using French oak barrels for 18 months, the wine undergoes enduring maturation to augment its deep, vibrant character. As with Silver Oak's unwavering commitment to quality, the Twomey Merlot Napa Valley 2014 reflects the finest grape growing and winemaking practices, underscoring their pursuit of perfection. Its sophisticated complexity brings immense pleasure to the discerning palate.

  • Tyler Chardonnay 2014 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (89)

The 2014 Chardonnay (Santa Barbara County) is a super-polished appellation-level Chardonnay. Pear, white flowers and mint give the 2014 its brightness and aromatic lift. This is an especially appealing, mid-weight Chardonnay built on freshness. I would prefer to drink the 2014 over the next few years. The key vineyard sites are Bien Nacido, Dierberg, La Rinconada, Zotovich and Sanford & Benedict, with an increasing reliance on Santa Maria fruit.

North America is somewhat difficult to pigeonhole – though technically ‘new world’, it is in the Northern Hemisphere, and the wines have the same devoted fan base (and often first-growth prices) as many classic European wines. Cooler climate Cabs, Merlots, Pinots, Chardonnays and Rieslings with old-world structure can all be found, though if anything is lacking by comparison it is consistency. South America is an exciting new melting pot of styles and flavours with a range of soils types and altitudes – taking international varietals and finishing with French winemaking techniques, or in the case of Argentinian Malbec, adopting a largely unloved grape and making it their own.
