Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95)

The 2005 Latour à Pomerol is a knock-out. Fresh, beautifully perfumed and classy, the 2005 is so impressive. It's not the biggest or richest Pomerol out there, that is for sure. Readers will find a gracious, understated Pomerol loaded with red berry fruit perked by soaring floral notes and bright blood orange accents. The long, persistent finish is exceptionally fine.

Wine Advocate (89)

This is a sexy, soft, round wine with notes of sweet red and black fruits intermixed with hints of truffle, tobacco leaf, and spice. Medium to full-bodied with sweet fruit and a savory mouthfeel in an up-front, forward style, this wine needs 2-3 years of cellaring and should drink up to 15 years or more.

Probably a sleeper of the vintage, the medium to full-bodied, pure 2008 reveals notes of almond paste intermixed with black currants, sweet cherries, caramel and mocha as well as an attractive texture and density. Consume it over the next decade.

Shows good density, with raspberry, bitter plum coulis and red currant paste notes that lend a slightly compact feel for now. The lively spice and rooibos tea hints that line the finish should emerge more with cellaring. Best from 2015 through 2025. 1,960 cases made. -JM

Wine Advocate (93+)

A very strong effort from this estate in the Jean-Pierre Moueix stable, this 2012 (14.5% natural alcohol) has a dense ruby/purple color, a big, sweet kiss of mocha, blackcurrants, and black cherries, and notes of truffle and earth. Full-bodied, ripe and one of the great successes from this estate over recent decades, the 2012 is a must-purchase for Pomerol enthusiasts. Silky tannins, superb concentration and a long, long finish suggest a good 20+ years of evolution at minimum. Bravo!

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90-93)

The 2013 Latour a Pomerol is one of the fleshier wines of the vintage. Smoke, tobacco, incense and dark red/black stone fruits all meld together in a wine of distinction and personality. I won't at all be surprised if the Latour a Pomerol ends up being one of the highlights of the vintage. Today it is naturally quite young, but it is impressive just the same. There is plenty to look forward to here.

The 2015 Latour à Pomerol is fabulous. Super-ripe red cherry, mint, crushed herbs, licorice and tobacco are all woven together in a fabric of pure and total class as this powerful, explosive Pomerol shows off its arresting beauty. As gorgeous as the 2015 is today, it also is going to need at least a number of years in bottle to be at its very best. The fusion of power and sensuality makes for a compelling Pomerol that is going to drink well for several decades. The 2015 has much to say, all it needs is time.

The 2017 Latour à Pomerol is a gorgeous wine that is at once deep and yet also super-expressive in its bouquet. Sweet tobacco, dried herbs, mint, pepper and spice give the 2017 striking aromatic presence to play off a core of ripe red cherry fruit. Medium in body yet wonderfully deep and fleshy, the 2017 has so much to offer. I like it as much from bottle as I did from barrel.

Decanter (95)

Wonderfully evocative nose, rich and vibrant, floral and perfumed alongside red fruits with a tiny touch of wood spice. Rich but dark and cooling, a brooding and bewitching style with liquorice-laced fruit and firm tannins. Serious, mouth filling, concentrated and rich but well delivered. There is a clarity to the fruit but this is all muscle and sinew at the moment. Lovely but tight and tense, so focussed with a hint of crushed stone and mint on the finish. A characterful style.

All Merlot from an 8-hectare parcel in Pomerol, the 2021 Château Latour A Pomerol has a charming, upfront perfume of spice red and black fruits, leather, dried flowers, and spicy wood. This carries to a medium-bodied, round, mouth-filling 2021 that has velvety tannins, good overall balance, and outstanding length. It offers ample pleasure today yet will cruise in cold cellars over the coming 15 years or more. It's an outstanding Pomerol.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)

5 Star Wine. This special bottling comes from the top left corner of their holding. Mid lemon yellow. A sense of intensity rather than the detail up front. The wood is entirely integrated. Four barrels, out of 40 overall in Genevrières. (2 out of 13 in 2024). Two minutes in the glass and the highest class of very pure white fruit emerges. A stunning purity and subtlety before a raft of power., assisted by the age of the vines (50+) as well as the terroir. Will still be tasting this when I reach Beaune! Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Oct 2024.

Mid yellow, with a really beautiful succulent nose, picked at perfect ripeness, and not hiding the delicacy and detail of fine Genevrières. Some lime, some verbena, delicate fresh apples, back to the lime blossom, then a really fine boned framework on the palate. Tingles the tastebuds in the most delicious way. A beautifully crafted 2023 Genevrières. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted Oct 2024.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)

Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet has a little softer orchard fruit compared to the Bourgogne, and is very true to its Meursault roots. The white fruit continues on the palate and is now joined by a saline note, while the ripe apples give an immediate appeal. There are little waves of flavour towards the back of the palate. Once again the aftertaste is fine, precise and thoroughly promising. Drink from 2027-2032.
