The 2020 La Dominique is every bit as impressive as it was from barrel. Dark and sumptuous in the glass, the 2020 is racy and wonderfully sleek right out of the gate. Dark cherry, gravel, spice, dried flowers and espresso lend shades of darkness to this deep, wonderfully plush La Dominique. Superb.

The 2022 Château La Dominique might be the finest I've tasted from this estate. Located in the northern part of Saint-Emilion, not far from Cheval Blanc as well as the Pomerol border, with plenty of clay in the soils, it's based on 88% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, raised in 50% new barrels. Gorgeous darker currant and black cherry fruit, chocolate, leafy herbs, and a Pomerol-like damp earth character all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, has incredible purity, silky tannins, and a great finish. It's a gorgeously textured, seamless, balanced Saint-Emilion that already offers pleasure yet has a solid two decades of prime drinking ahead of it. Bravo.

La Falize Chardonnay 2021 exemplifies exceptional craftsmanship from the esteemed vineyards of the Mâconnais region in Burgundy. Carefully hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes are selected from premier terroirs, ensuring optimal ripeness and vibrant acidity. The wine undergoes a meticulous fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, preserving its fresh fruit character and delicate floral notes. A subtle ageing on fine lees enhances its depth and complexity, imparting nuanced flavours of citrus zest, white peach, and a hint of vanilla from restrained oak influence. Produced by the renowned La Falize estate, known for their dedication to sustainable viticulture and traditional winemaking techniques, this Chardonnay showcases their expertise and passion for quality. The La Falize Chardonnay 2021 presents a brilliant golden hue, leading to a refined palate with a harmonious balance between minerality and richness. Elegant yet approachable, it pairs beautifully with seafood, poultry, and creamy cheeses, making it a distinguished choice for discerning wine enthusiasts.

Even better than the Vendange cuvee, and I suspect one of the wines of the vintage, Stephane’s 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Côtes Capelan is the top wine of the estate and is made from 80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre, raised 70% in concrete and 30% in barrels. There’s under 500 cases of this beauty and it reveals a deep purple color as well as decadent notes of blackberries, blackcurrants, crushed rocks and melted licorice. Full-bodied, thick, unctuous and massively concentrated, with ripe tannin and a killer finish, don’t miss it!

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (86-89)

The 2014 La Fleur is deep, dense and authoritative in style. A host of black cherries, smoke, mocha, licorice, violets and plums blossom as this pliant, expressive wine shows off its bold personality. Today the tannins are quite overpowering. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 develops a bit better balance in bottle.

At present, this estate is the reference point for high quality wines from Lalande de Pomerol. The basic cuvee from proprietor Hubert de Bouard and his wife Corinne, the 2006 La Fleur de Bouard is composed of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Sensationally rich, with abundant quantities of blue and black fruits, spring flowers, graphite, licorice, and hints of espresso roast as well as toasty oak, it is supple enough to be drunk now, or cellared for a decade.
