Wine Advocate (96)The 2015 Romanée Saint-Vivant Grand Cru from Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat is exceptional, bursting from the glass with notes of cherries, wild berries, exotic spice, dried flowers and orange rind. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and authoritative, built around a bright line of acidity and a fine-grained chassis of satiny tannins. The finish is long, fragrant and racy. |

Decanter (97)This 1920 parcel is situated in the northern part of the Romanée-St-Vivant grand cru, very close to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's holdings - and it's often a match for that wine. It's detailed, lacy and refreshing, with adroitly integrated 50% new wood and layers of red cherry, raspberry and red plum fruit. It has focussed acidity and palate-caressing tannins. Effortlessly complex. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (95)The 2021 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has plenty of fruit on the nose with raspberry and blackcurrant scents, light sea spray and seaweed, fine delineation and focus. There is an atypical sheen of opulence. The palate is sorbet-fresh on the entry with very fine lacelike tannins and irresistible red fruit infused with blood orange and tangerine. This is nascent vitality and energy, though very persistent with a brightness that really comes through. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (96-98)The 2023 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru was the last cuvée to finish its malo. This has a compelling mineral-driven bouquet with intense red berry fruit, razor-sharp delineation and poise. It's perhaps a level-up from the previous vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a plush entry. It's velvety smooth in texture, with a patina of oak to be subsumed, but there is plenty of weight on the finish and a wonderful peppery aftertaste. It's one of the more powerful wines from the domaine, but it will give many years of pleasure. This is fabulous. |

Vinous (95)The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru has a slightly meaty/feral bouquet, just a hint of gaminess that might become more conspicuous with bottle age. Otherwise I find this well defined and with flattering red cherry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is a fine bead of acidity here, a pleasant fleshy mouthfeel towards the finish and a residual salinity that beckons you back for the next sip. This represents another impressive wine from Charles Van Canneyt. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (93)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru has a fresh raspberry and wild strawberry bouquet, accompanied by touches of leather and freshly tilled earth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that frame the pure, lightly spiced red fruit. Sage and thyme furnish the cohesive, persistent finish. Excellent. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts was the latest to finish its malolactic in mid-September. The nose has plenty of energy: red berry fruit, orange sorbet, wet limestone and fresh prune scents. The palate is primal with a dense body of red fruit. There is better weight here than the Suchots with more persistence on the peacock’s tail finish. Is this the Malconsorts of the vintage? |

Vinous (94-96)The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru is limited to two-and-a-half barrels this year, making it the domaine’s smallest cuvée, and only bottled in magnum. It has an earthy, loamy nose, almost peat-like, very well defined, with ample black fruit. The palate has sinew on the entry and great depth and assertiveness. Very complex and intellectual with that limestone terroir defining the very persistent finish. This is a wonderful Malconsorts for those who worship "proper" Burgundy. |

Vinous (96-98)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru has a pixelated bouquet that unfolds beautifully in the glass, a femme fatale of pure red and blue fruit with a hint of violet. Vinous (93+)Good bright, full red. Knockout musky nose offers raspberry, minerals, resin, smoke and underbrush; pure liquid pheromones for this Burgundy lover. Then spicy, surprisingly dry and distinctly adult in style, with superb precision and lift to the gripping raspberry, cherry and truffle flavors. Finishes with outstanding subtle, palate-staining persistence and great sex appeal. |

Wine Advocate (92-94)The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Suchots, which comes from the domains century-old vines on more clayey soil than the Beaumonts, has a pixilated bouquet with vibrant red currant and cranberry scents, more floral than the aforementioned premier cru. The palate is medium-bodied with supple juicy tannins, a fine line of acidity and a tangy marmalade-tinged finish that coats the mouth in spicy red fruit. There is just lovely build to this Suchots that is streets ahead of the 2012. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is showing brilliantly this year, wafting from the glass with a deep-pitched bouquet of cassis, blackberries, spices and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rich and enveloping, its textural attack segueing into a deep and layered core, concluding with a long and penetrating finish. |

Burghound (92-95)A riper and less elegant but more complex nose combines notes of black raspberry, cassis, Asian-style tea and a plethora of exotic spice nuances, especially star anise and hoisin. There is excellent mid-palate density to the suave but relatively powerful medium weight plus flavors that possess a highly attractive texture, all wrapped in a caressing, velvety and strikingly long finale. This too is terrific, and it should be a knockout in time. (92-95)/2031+ |
