Vinous (95-97)The 2018 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is exceedingly pure on the nose, offering black cherries, bergamot and touches of pomegranate and wonderful mineralité; it’s actually not unlike the Chapelle-Chambertin from Dugat in style. The palate is well balanced with fine-grained tannins. Not a voluptuous Chapelle-Chambertin, but full of nervosité, with a lightly spiced and very persistent finish. Superb. |

Vinous (91-94)(80% vendange entier, 70% new oak) Good deep red-ruby. Complex smoky aromas of red fruits, tobacco and faded rose. Suave, broad, rich and stylish, with subtle inner-mouth aromatic character. Fine-grained without any impression of weight. Finishes with building tannins and lovely lingering perfume. Tremblay says this wine has opened considerably since the 2010 harvest. |

Wine Advocate (95)Some of Cécile Tremblay's wines in this vintage are decidedly reticent and shut down, but the 2013 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru is still open for inspection, bursting from the glass with a lavish bouquet of plums, cassis, smoked duck and dark chocolate, followed by a full-bodied, ample and expansive palate with excellent concentration at the core, velvety structuring tannins and a long, vibrant finish. In the unlikely event that any readers possess large numbers of bottles, trying one now wouldn't be a crime. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2014 Echézeaux Grand Cru du Dessus, which was completely destemmed, has a lovely bouquet, very harmonious and perhaps showing more complexity than the Chapelle-Chambertin at the moment. The mineralité really comes through here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, vibrant and vivacious with perfectly judged acidity. This is a really quite beautiful Echézeaux for long term aging (if you can resist temptation). |

Vinous (92-95)(30% vendange entier; just half of a normal crop due to frost losses through the combe): Bright, dark red-ruby. Rather brooding aromas of blackcurrant, dark raspberry, licorice, violet, crushed rock and spices. Then surprisingly dense and sweet in the mouth, more generous and creamy than the Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges du Dessus, showing a hint of chocolate. This wine is always the highest in pH in the cellar, noted Tremblay. Finishes with suave, fine-grained tannins, a suggestion of marzipan sweetness and building length. Tremblay noted that owing to the cordon de royat pruning used here, the buds are a bit higher off the ground, and that made a difference during the frost as the temperature at this level may have been as much as a full degree Centigrade higher. |

Wine Advocate (94-96)Broader and more flamboyant than the Chapelle-Chambertin, the 2020 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru bursts with aromas of plums, wild berries, exotic spices, orange rind, peonies and smoked meats. Full-bodied, ample and perfumed, it's layered and concentrated, with a fleshy, multidimensional core of fruit, lively acids and a long, expansive finish. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2021 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru, which contains 10% whole bunches, offers impressive presence on the nose, incense permeating the red berry fruit, wonderful delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly spiced, blood orange infused entry, touches of white pepper and even ginger towards the persistent finish. This will need a little time to cohere but there is clearly immense potential. |
