I’ve criticized many previous vintages of this Pomerol, but the 2019 Lagrange gives notice of improvements afoot. Now in bottle, it has a very pleasant and quite concentrated bouquet of black cherries, raspberry coulis and light truffle scents laced with blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a velvety entry and a ripe, slightly confit, spicy finish. A surprisingly plush and well-defined Lagrange that has lived up to its promise and is well worth checking out. A harbinger of things to come?Inc. GSTSG$689.80 -

Purchased by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953 and located in the northern portion of Pomerol, the 2023 Château Lagrange (Pomerol) is 100% Merlot from gravelly, clay soils. Solid red and black fruits intermixed with graphite and smoky, tobacco-like nuances emerge from the bouquet, and it's concentrated and nicely built on the palate, with a firmer, denser style, ample tannins, and a great finish. Give it 3-4 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following two decades. Drink 2029-2053.Inc. GSTSG$655.96 -

The flagship from a 7-acre parcel in the estate vineyard, the 2016 Cahors Le Pigeonnier is another Pomerol look-alike with its beautiful bouquet of black cherries, blueberries, damp earth, white chocolate, and exotic spices. As with all these 2016s, it’s a ripe, powerful, opulent wine that doesn’t pull any punches, yet always stays balanced, elegant, and remarkably fresh. Made from 100% Malbec aged two years in new French oak, it builds beautifully with time in the glass, has a deep, layered mid-palate, and a blockbuster finish. It’s possibly the finest Cahors I’ve ever tasted and would pass undetected in a blind lineup of top Napa Cabernets. While it’s no doubt beautiful today, I suspect it will develop even more nuance and complexity with 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 years.Inc. GSTSG$1,039.16 -

Deep, dark ruby. Very dark, slightly high-toned aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, minerals and violet; I would have guessed this wine included some Cabernet Franc (Mega Purple, said general manager Michael Updegraff, tongue in cheek I assume). Very concentrated and intense, with its almost port-like cassis and black cherry flavors leavened by saline minerality. The echoing finish features huge ripe tannins that saturate the sides of the mouth. This wine shows the opulence of the 2012 but a bit more obvious breed and structure. Another classic Napa Valley Cabernet with a lot going on. Incidentally, Updegraff considers this the top Napa Valley Cabernet vintage of his career, which began in 1982. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon John Daniel Cuvée turned out beautifully. In fact, it is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. Lail's 2021 J. Daniel Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon blends lots from several high-end vineyards, including Heimark (Calistoga), Vine Hill Ranch (Oakville) and Steltzner (Stags Leap), plus Lail's own Mole Hill on Howell Mountain. It's an exciting wine, starting from the pulse-quickening aromas of raspberries and black cherries tinged with dark chocolate. In the mouth, this full-bodied beauty is richly concentrated, with a sensuous texture somewhere between silky and velvety, while the softly dusty finish shows terrific length and a spine-tingling hint of licorice. To reduce this wine to deceptively simple yet hard-to-pin-down words, it's complex, harmonious and elegant, yet it's enough of its place that it could only come from Napa Valley.Inc. GSTSG$2,918.12 -

The NV (2021) Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée Les Beaudiers is attractive and quite distinctive. Sweet dried cherry, mint, tobacco, game, licorice and amaro herbs waft from the glass. Strong savory and earthy notes lend quite a bit of complexity. Readers should expect a fairly eccentric style. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: December 2024; multiple disgorgements throughout the year.In BondSG$439.00 -

The NV Champagne Ultradition Extra Brut is based on the 2022 vintage with 50% reserve wine, and the blend is 60% Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, and the rest Pinot Noir. Disgorged in September 2024, with 4 grams per liter dosage, it pours a pale straw/silver color. It’s beautiful and fruity upfront, with loads of fresh black raspberries and red fruit, accompanied by a salty freshness reminiscent of cherries and salted chocolate. Refreshing, clean, and medium-bodied, it has fantastic value. What a fabulous entry wine in the range for this year; it combines intellectual thought with ease of enjoyment and is a true value wine.In BondSG$295.00 -

Deep, unctuous and powerful, but with good freshness, the 2014 hits all the right notes. Specifically, the 2014 offers tons of richness, but without the heaviness or raisinated character that has defined some previous years. In BondSG$1,855.00 -

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvée is a huge, opulent wine. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, espresso, mocha and licorice are amplified in this flamboyant, exotic Cabernet Sauvignon. Soft, plush and engaging, the 2015 captures all the richness of the year, along with the more overt style that was typical of this era. Even so, the J. Daniel has aged quite well. It will drink well for another decade or so.In BondSG$1,975.00 -

One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 75% new French oak, the 2016 J Daniel Cuvee is deep garnet-purple in color and offers up exuberant notes of crème de cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, wild blueberries, violets and unsmoked cigars with touches of garrigue, fragrant earth, powdered cinnamon, black olives and tree bark. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house, with a solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the taut, muscular fruit, finishing long and minerally. 950 cases produced. In BondSG$2,440.00 -

To reduce this wine to deceptively simple yet hard-to-pin-down words, it's complex, harmonious and elegant, yet it's enough of its place that it could only come from Napa Valley. In BondSG$2,615.00 -
