Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-91)
Chanlins makes up two thirds of this cuvee with one third from La Vache (since 2022). 50% whole bunch vinification, while a bit more new wood (one third) has been used as they feel Pommard merits it. Mid purple, the fruit slightly more subdued though there is obviously plenty of it beneath. Certainly, the deep red raspberry fruit fills out the middle of the palate, with softly managed tannins at the finish. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted Nov 2024.Inc. GSTSG$566.15 -

Very pale, bright yellow. Ethereal aromas of lemon, lime and white flowers, with hints of ripe peach and high-toned spices emerging with air; wears its 25% new oak gracefully. Supple on entry, then intense and racy in the middle, with an almost painful citric character suggesting that this wine is nowhere near ready to drink. Boasts a wonderfully fine-grained texture and finishes with a real whiplash of fruits and flowers. A beauty.Inc. GSTSG$3,568.44 -

Bright, pale lemon-yellow color. Peach and white flowers on the subdued, pure nose. Tightly wound and perfumed, communicating strong inner-mouth tension to its flavors of stone fruits, spices and flowers. Ultimately rounder on the finish than the Referts, but still with a lightly tannic impression that calls for some patience.Inc. GSTSG$3,154.24 -

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru sports quite a bit of reduction on the nose that makes the terroir and fruit profile difficult to read. The palate is well balanced, taut and fresh, with a fine bead of acidity and good depth; quite powerful for a Folatières. Fine bitter lemon notes surface on the finish, which is very sapid and more-ish. A long-term wine but well worth cellaring. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.Inc. Mid lemon yellow. There is a little more generosity of fruit on the nose, this is properly ripe though it came in at 12.5%. It does not need any more. A little bacon fat reduction, perfectly balanced through the middle, enough acidity but not trenchant. More nuanced than Referts, on its way to becoming a very fine wine. Drink from 2028-2036. Pale lemon-green color. The aromas of lime, white peach and white flowers reminded me of Chassagne. Rich, pliant and deep, with a lovely sugar/acid balance to its flavors of citrus fruits, flowers and mint. Really echoes and spreads out horizontally on the taut, minerally, very long finish. At this point in our tasting, Marc Bachelet asserted that the brothers' 2011s have more material than their 2010s.Inc. GSTSG$4,320.54 -

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of orchard fruit and touches of white flowers; a crushed stone note develops almost reluctantly with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This is harmonious, focused and mineral-driven, the finish composed and elegant yet reassuringly persistent. The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a slight mintiness on the nose that I find a little incongruous in this wine. This appears to ebb with aeration and reveal more petrichor scents. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, touches of orange pith and wild peach, fine depth and precision towards the finish. This is an absolutely delicious Puligny. The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a crisp, precise, gunflint-tinged bouquet that is beautifully defined and focused. The palate is very well balanced with a wonderful line of acidity. The judicious new oak (under 20%) just lends a little weight toward the finish. This is all about the tension and energy. The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru clearly has some reduction on the nose although, unlike some others, this seems proportionate and not fixed. It does not detract from the freshness or delineation. The palate is taut and fresh on the entry. Again, predictably, there is some reduction but it feels complete and full with impressive weight and depth on the finish. Tuck this away for a couple of years - there is promise here. The 2015 Puligny Montrachet Village is instantly more expressive on the nose compared to the Chassagne-Montrachet with bright Granny Smith apples, cold limestone and even a surprising hint of Turkish Delight adding a soupçon of exoticism. The palate is very well balanced with an attractive sense of airiness. This is very well defined with a tangy touch of ginger towards the saline finish that lingers long on the aftertaste. At this point in our tasting, Marc Bachelet asserted that the brothers' 2011s have more material than their 2010s.In BondSG$3,845.00 -
(6x75cl) 2017Vinous (95)
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of orchard fruit and touches of white flowers; a crushed stone note develops almost reluctantly with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This is harmonious, focused and mineral-driven, the finish composed and elegant yet reassuringly persistent. A Puligny Premier Cru from the top drawer. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.In BondSG$1,390.00 -
(3x150cl) 2018Vinous (93)
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a slight mintiness on the nose that I find a little incongruous in this wine. This appears to ebb with aeration and reveal more petrichor scents. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, touches of orange pith and wild peach, fine depth and precision towards the finish. This is an absolutely delicious Puligny. (3x75cl) 2020Vinous (93-95)
A ridiculously good Les Referts from Domaine Bachelet-Monnot.In BondSG$681.00 -
(1x75cl) 2021Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
Like the Santenay Blanc, this is a village cru punching well above its weight and as a result, it comes highly recommended. In BondSG$1,570.00 -
(6x75cl) 2019Vinous (90-92)
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village offers gunflint and green apples on the strict, tightly wound nose, a touch of petrichor with time. The palate is very saline on the entry, harmonious and focused. Touches of blackcurrant leaf lend another layer of complexity on the mineral-rich finish. Great persistence here, very saline and just superb for a Village Cru.In BondSG$539.00 -
(12x75cl) 2020Vinous (90-92)
The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a well-defined nose of light honeysuckle and lime flower aromas, quite strict and mineral-driven. The palate is more expressive at the moment, with ample tension. Just the right amount of bitter lemon lends edginess on the finish. This has a bit of swagger, though it needs 3–4 years for the bouquet to really open. Very fine.In BondSG$1,110.00 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a strict, petrichor/wet limestone-scented bouquet, focused but not powerful. The palate is well balanced with a sappy entry, fine depth for a Village Cru and beautifully-judged acidity. A dab of spice enlivens the finish. This is an excellent, citrus-driven Puligny. In BondSG$871.00 -
