Wine Advocate (97)
The 2005 Shiraz “Attunga 1865” is sourced from ungrafted vines planted in the Clare Valley in 1865. It spent 25 months in 100% new French oak hogsheads and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Opaque purple/black, it reveals an ethereal bouquet of crushed rocks, acacia flowers, espresso, mocha, black cherry, and blackberry. This leads to a powerful, intense, yet elegant wine with a very long, seamless finish. This beautifully balanced effort will excite tasters over the next 25 years. Kilikanoon’s winemaker is the talented Kevin Mitchell. The house specialty is Shiraz but Mitchell does equally well with Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache.Inc. GSTSG$919.31 -

Inky purple. An exotic bouquet presents black and blue fruit preserves, vanilla, licorice and potpourri. Sweet, deeply pitched blueberry and cherry-vanilla flavors stain the palate and gain spiciness with aeration. Shows superb energy and power on the finish, with lingering touches of smoke, cracked pepper and floral pastille. This sweet, seamless wine should be left to rest for at least another five to seven years and probably much longer.Inc. GSTSG$1,045.77 -
Halliday Wine Companion (95)
A mesh of premium vineyard fruit and an 18 month passage across quality French oak, this is a salubrious, full-bodied and glossy wine. A deep crimson verging on opaque. A firm bulwark of coffee grind-mocha tannins prolongs scents of violet, blue to black berry persuasions and crushed rock, long and far across the palate. The tannins define, etch and shape this, keeping it from an OTT persuasion. Just. Very good, if hedonism is your cup of tea.Inc. GSTSG$1,015.71 -

(3x75cl) 2019Vinous (97+)
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon La Voleuse du Chagrin emerges from a block of Eisele Clone Cabernet on St. George rootstock on a tiny sliver of vineyard that was one part of Eisele. For that reason, I am not surprised to see that the 2019 has shut down a bit post-bottling. Dark and resonant in the glass, the 2019 exudes class and sensuality, with its energy pretty much buried by the fruit. Production is tiny, so I can only hope to revisit in another few years' time. From barrel, it was one of the most impressive wines I tasted in a morning full of great Cabernets.Inc. GSTSG$1,877.75 -

An utterly magnificent wine, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Rhadamanthus Diamond Mountain District is creamy, ample and super-expressive, with layers of fruit presently masking quite a bit of the mountain tannin. Inky dark fruit, licorice, gravel, spice. All the elements come together effortlessly in this sumptuous, explosive Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2018 is so elegant, so pure, so refined. I loved it. In a word: monumental.Inc. GSTSG$2,211.29 -

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Rhadamanthus Diamond Mountain District is a heady, hillside wine endowed with an explosive energy that races across the palate from the very first taste. Scorched earth, menthol, gravel, licorice and a good dose of Cabernet Franc/Petit Verdot savoriness add weave through a core of dark fruit. Last of the 2019s, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Anjea (always 100% Clone 22 Cabernet Sauvignon) is more floral and aromatic, with perfumed red, blue, and black fruits as well as lots of floral, truffle, chocolate, and tobacco nuances. As with the other 2019s here, the balance is flat-out perfect, and the wine is medium to full-bodied, with ripe, polished tannins and a gorgeous finish.Inc. GSTSG$1,720.79 -

The dense ruby/purple-colored, chunky, rich, slightly masculine 2011 Kirwan is medium-bodied and fleshy. It reveals excellent extraction of fruit and flavor, sweet, but noticeable tannins and a nicely textured mouthfeel as well as finish. Dark ruby. Bright blackcurrant and cherry aromas are complicated by violet and cedar: strikes me as deeper and richer nose than usual for Kirwan. Then somewhat more brooding in the mouth, with an austere quality but sneaky concentration to the herbal and inky dark fruit flavors. I like this wine's very fresh delivery of fruit, but the mouthcoating, building tannins keep the score down a bit.Inc. GSTSG$391.66 -
