Deep, dark and almost animalistic in nature, the 1997 Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni boasts a rich ruby hue in the glass without any bricking at the rim. Balsamic spice, dried black cherries, leather, minty herbs and hints of mocha form its beguiling bouquet. Its textures are velvety-smooth, yet the wine is surprisingly lifted with tart berries and sweet inner herbal tones, as silty tannins slowly saturate toward the close. While still lightly structured, which I believe the 1997 always will be, the finale remains completely pleasurable and long, with a mentholated freshness and a bitter hint of espresso that lingers.Inc. The firm Sagrantino tannins are there, but the wine has so much fruit they are barely perceptible. The truly captivating 2016 Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni pulls you close to the glass with a beguiling bouquet that mixes citrus-tinged black fruits with exotic spices, hints of oregano, menthol and a dusting of cocoa. While there’s admirable weight and depth here, the textures are more like pure silk, delicately draped across the palate, yet leaving behind a saturating blend of intense dark fruits, minerals and fine-grained tannin. There’s so much depth and concentration to work through that, even as the 2016 finishes youthfully structured and dry, it continues to resonate for well over a minute with notes of currant, sage and dark chocolate. Bury this beautiful beast for at least 3–5 years in your cellar, and then enjoy it over the next decade or more. This is a fantastic rendition of Arnaldo Caprai’s 25 Anni.Inc. GSTSG$739.43 -

An exotic and smoky mix of dusty dried flowers, allspice, sage and dried black cherries emerges from the hauntingly dark 2018 Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni. This is densely textural and weighty in feel, yet the balance is on point, as brisk acids maintain momentum, and a saturation of ripe red and black fruits permeate the palate. Balsam, mint, tobacco, dark chocolate and licorice can all be found through the long and utterly dramatic finale, as the 25 Anni finishes structured, yet more approachable than I’ve come to expect. Arnaud Ente's 2015 Bourgogne Aligoté offers up aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, blanched almond and honeysuckle—the prelude to a medium-bodied, bright and vibrant wine, with succulent acids, lovely extract and almost crystalline purity. This was followed by the 2016 Bourgogne Aligoté from Domaine Arnaud Ente. “Best wine in the range?” I half-jested, in praise of Ente’s Aligoté rather than disparaging his Chardonnays. Pale silvery in hue, it offers attractive scents of white flowers and apricot blossom, linden and hints of lemon verbena. (2x75cl) 2015Wine Advocate (87)
The 2015 Bourgogne Blanc from Arnaud Ente is initially quite reduced, so decanting is advised if you're drinking this young, but with time in the glass a pretty bouquet of apple, pear and iodine begins to take shape. On the palate, the wine is medium-full, sappy and succulent, with more richness and texture than the Aligoté but without its intensity and purity. This would score higher if it weren't for the overt reduction. Ente's constantly delicious Bourgogne Blanc comes from young vines (a portion in the commune of Puligny, planted in 2002, and the rest in the commune of Meursault, planted in 2012), but while it commands a premium over his Aligoté, I tend to prefer the latter.Inc. (5-Star) 44 hl/ha. Palish lemon but no need to concentrate on the colour when the bouquet is quite so adorable. Ente's 2019 Bourgogne Blanc unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, citrus zest, blanched almonds and bread dough. Medium to full-bodied, ample and elegantly textural, with racy acids and a precise, saline finish, this has turned out very well indeed. In BondSG$2,129.00 -

(5-Star) 44 hl/ha. Palish lemon but no need to concentrate on the colour when the bouquet is quite so adorable. So detailed, little hints of verveine, spring flowers, apple blossom, fresh fruit, then riper on the palate, a little pineapple possibly, but not over exotic and finishes more on the classic apple and lemon stratum. Persistent of course. Tasted Jan 2021.In BondSG$2,129.00 -

Superripe aromas of dried fruits complicated by white flowers and a peppery nuance. Then distinctly less fleshy and generous in the middle palate than the Petits Charrons, with the peppery quality carrying through in the mouth. Markedly different in texture and style, and in need of patience. In BondSG$4,755.00 -

Tasted blind, this was an exceptional showing for Ente's 2015 Meursault 1er Cru La Goutte d'Or, a beautiful wine that offers up a youthfully reserved bouquet of iodine, citrus oil and white flowers. On the palate, this Goutte d'Or is full-bodied, ample and layered, with terrific cut, concentration and length, its tension and vivacity lending it considerable drama despite its reticence in other respects. In BondSG$3,870.00 -

5 Star Wine. Very pale colour. Hyper elegant nose, impressive nervous tension, despite 13.3 alcohol and 3.15 pH, really lively, white fruit – this vineyard is really coming into its own since the vines hit 20 years old. A little touch of barrel; biscuit, but the wine is really together, beautiful texture and stretches out exceptionally well across a very long finish. Tasted: September 2018.In BondSG$12,217.00 -

The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Les Gouttes d'Or mingles aromas of pear and Meyer lemon with hints of toasted almond, white flowers and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and precise, with lovely depth and mid-palate amplitude, its elegantly fleshy core of fruit is girdled by racy acids. In BondSG$16,415.00 -
Vinous (89-92)
Green-tinged color. Complex aromas of lime, smoke, nut oil and charry oak. Densely packed and intensely flavored, with a strong lemony component and brisk acids making it almost painful in the mouth. But this has much more middle-palate flesh to support its firm structure than the comparatively bony regular bottling from Ormeau. In BondSG$1,130.00
