The superb 2020 was a hard act to follow, but the 2021 Villa de Corullón didn't disappoint me. It also had contained ripeness and 13.5% alcohol, but it was darker than the 2020 but following the same style; and the wine has elegance and a vibrant palate, with very good freshness. I think Corullón has improved a lot since 2020. It's floral and elegant, with very fine tannins and nicely textured.Inc. GSTSG$429.96 -

Vivid ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes black raspberry, candied lavender and incense, with a hint of Asian spices in the background. Lively, deep, expansive red and dark berry and floral pastille flavors are given back-end lift by a building mineral quality. The nervy, clinging finish features fine-grained tannins and repeating floral and spice notes.Inc. GSTSG$1,137.37 -

2021 is clearly the finest vintage of the trio of 2020, 2021 and 2022, and the bottled 2021 Pétalos delivers what the unbottled samples promised: a wine with lower alcohol than ever (13.5%), lighter, a little narrower but with the juiciness of Mencía that seems to come back after some time in bottle. It has lots of notes of aromatic herbs, with some similar aromas to the La Faraona. It's quite expressive and showy, very pleasant and easy to drink, very gourmand, with a velvety mouthfeel and very fine tannins. 320,000 bottles and 2,567 magnums produced. It was bottled between November 2022 and March 2023. Approachable now, very hedonistic.Inc. GSTSG$244.66 -

(12x75cl) 2007Desert Heart Pinot Noir 2007 exemplifies the pinnacle of elegant winemaking. Crafted in the renowned Burgundy-inspired vineyards of the Mornington Peninsula, this vintage benefits from a meticulously controlled fermentation process. Hand-picked grapes from the estate’s oldest vines undergo gentle maceration to preserve the delicate berry flavours. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, the wine develops a sublime complexity with notes of ripe cherry, subtle earthiness, and a hint of spice. The esteemed producers at Desert Heart have combined traditional techniques with sustainable practices, ensuring each bottle reflects their commitment to quality and terroir expression. On the palate, the Desert Heart Pinot Noir 2007 offers a harmonious balance of silky tannins and vibrant acidity, culminating in a long, elegant finish. This exceptional vintage is a testament to Desert Heart’s dedication to producing fine Pinot Noir that captivates connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.

Château Desmirail looks to have turned out a sensational wine in the vintage, and their 2017 offers a forward, already irresistible style as well as loads of spicy red and black fruits, incense and spice aromas, and flavors. I love its purity of fruit, it has medium-bodied richness, and ripe tannin. Drink it on release and over the following 10-15 years.Inc. GSTSG$738.98 -

The 2018 Desmirail impressed out of barrel. Now bottled, it still represents one of the best vintages that I have tasted from this Margaux estate. Gorgeous blackberry and raspberry scents feature on the nose, the new oak supportive and beautifully enmeshed. The palate is very well balanced with supple tannins, a keen line of acidity and a chalky-textured finish that is extremely well focused. This is a great success for Denis Lurton and his team. Tasted twice with consistent notes.Inc. GSTSG$792.21 -

Spicy oak, ripe black cherries, and floral nuances emerge from the 2022 Château Desmirail, a medium-bodied, elegant, seamless Margaux offering polished tannins, just about flawless balance, and a great finish. It's beautifully done and well worth seeking out. If it picks up weight with 2-4 years in the cellar, the score will seem low. The 2022 is 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.Inc. GSTSG$805.29 -

Full ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry coulis, violet and bitter chocolate, complicated by smoky, toasty oak. Sweet, lush and ripe, with good depth to the black cherry and smoky oak flavors. Broad and mouthfilling. Finishes with dusty, sweet tannins that reach the front teeth. A very strong effort for this property. The 2016 Destieux has turned out beautifully. A gorgeous, modern Saint-Émilion, Destieux offers tremendous depth and textural resonance from the outset. Dark, jammy fruit, chocolate, spice and new leather take on exotic shades of dimension. Destieux is a decidedly flamboyant Saint-Émilion endowed with superb richness and tons of sheer appeal. The 2018 Destieux has a lovely, ripe, blueberry and cassis scented bouquet with violet petals that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet saturated tannins and moderate acidity. It lacks a little structure on the finish and the new oak is too vocal, but hopefully that will resolve itself by the time of bottling. Let’s see.Inc. GSTSG$913.20 -

Beautiful cassis, ripe black cherries, spring flowers, and graphite notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Destieux, a medium to full-bodied, seamless, and remarkably pure Saint-Emilion.
