  • Chateau de Meursault Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes Dessus 2021 (6x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (92)

The 2021 Meursault Les Charmes Dessus 1er Cru has a crisp and well-defined bouquet with much more terroir expression than Fabien Coche's Meursault Charmes. It is nuanced with hints of popcorn and walnut. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut and focused, quite tangy with a twist of bitter lemon towards the finish. Fine sapidity, but I would afford this another couple of years to fully cohere. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

    Vinous - Neal Martin (94)

The 2022 Meursault Les Charmes Dessus 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with scents of frangipani, almond and citrus peel, with an underlying minéralité that develops in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a silver bead of acidity, much more minéralité developing towards the finish. It is as though the complexity and terroir expression is stacked towards the end, but overall this is a well crafted, nuanced Meursault-Charmes that just needs time. Bottled under Diam 10 Origine. Less fruity on the nose than Bourgogne Terroir d'Exception, which is made from vines close to Perrières; more new oak showing here, plus a whiff of caramel. Then plusher and smoother in the mouth, with its sweetness leavened by firm acidity and peachy cut. The persistent finish features penetrating crushed-stone minerality. The estate bottled its top 2016 crus in April of this year.

The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with a welcome bitter lemon note that upholds tension and salinity on the finish. • Chateau de Millery 2016 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)

The 2016 Millery is one of the most rapturously beautiful, seductive wines I tasted during my December trip to Bordeaux. Thierry Manoncourt, the late owner of Figeac, purchased this small property in 1942, when he was in the French Army. The tiny vineyard spans less than one hectare and is planted to 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. For decades, Millery remained more of a small family property, its wine destined for personal consumption, rather than a commercial venture. There are just about 4,000 bottles made each year, and most of it disappears very quickly. A wine of pure and total finesse, Millery is simply exquisite. The dark red fruit, floral, licorice and spice notes show the delineation of a pencil sketch in their fine lines and precision. Figeac Technical Director Frédéric Faye made the 2016 with input from consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos, who has helped Canon, Troplong Mondot and other estates make huge strides in quality in recent years. Most importantly, though, the 2016 is flat out delicious. Run, don't walk. And you heard it here first....

  • Chateau de Meursault Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes Dessus 2022 (6x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (94)

The 2022 Meursault Les Charmes Dessus 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with scents of frangipani, almond and citrus peel, with an underlying minéralité that develops in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a silver bead of acidity, much more minéralité developing towards the finish. It is as though the complexity and terroir expression is stacked towards the end, but overall this is a well crafted, nuanced Meursault-Charmes that just needs time. Bottled under Diam 10 Origine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

  • Chateau de Meursault Meursault 1er Cru Perrieres Blanc 2016 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (90+)

Less fruity on the nose than Bourgogne Terroir d'Exception, which is made from vines close to Perrières; more new oak showing here, plus a whiff of caramel. Then plusher and smoother in the mouth, with its sweetness leavened by firm acidity and peachy cut. The persistent finish features penetrating crushed-stone minerality. The estate bottled its top 2016 crus in April of this year.
  • Chateau de Meursault Meursault 1er Cru Perrieres Blanc 2018 (6x150cl)

    Vinous (94)

The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is very harmonious on the nose. Yellow flowers, Japanese yuzu, quince and orange zest open with aeration whilst maintaining superb focus. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with a welcome bitter lemon note that upholds tension and salinity on the finish. I like where this Perrières is going - one to watch. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2022 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is slightly more reductive on the nose compared to its peers, but it opens in the glass with just a light fumé scent, combined with white flowers and lanolin. The palate is very well balanced with melon, green apple and (again) that lovely oyster shell note on the precise and sustained finish. Excellent. Bottled under Diam 10 Origine.
