The 2023 Dolcetto d'Alba is a jewel-like magenta color and is lifted and fresh on the nose with highlights of red fruit accenting the pretty floral and darker berry notes of the Dolcetto, along with notes of fresh purple flowers, ripe berries, and wet stones. The palate offers brilliant intensity, complemented by electric acidity, ripe fruit, and a snappy, crunchy feel that persists through the finish. It offers a good deal of nervous energy at this early stage and will benefit from another 6-12 months in the bottle, although it should retain its poppy freshness for a considerable amount of time. (2x75cl) 2020Vinous (91)
The 2020 Langhe Freisa is powerful wild and gamy. Cured meats, leather, tobacco, incense, dried dark cherry, tobacco and spice all run through this wild, decidedly rustic Freisa. It's not an especially easy wine to taste in this lineup of otherwise elegant reds. That may change in future vintages, though. The 2020 is the first Langhe Freisa that Maria Teresa Mascarello is bottling as a still wine. In the past, the Freisa had been done in the traditional, slightly sparkling style in which the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle, but the higher natural alcohols of current times make that impossible.Inc. Mascarello's 2015 Langhe Nebbiolo is frankly more compelling than most Barolos or Barbarescos. A huge overachiever, the 2015 possesses striking depth in all of its dimensions. Creamy, ample and super-expressive, with beautifully layered fruit and bright aromatics, the 2015 simply has it all. Readers who can find the 2015 should not hesitate, as it is an absolute and total stunner. Don't miss it.Inc. GSTSG$928.03 -

Sweet dried red cherry, mint, sweet tobacco, orange peel and incense are all lifted in the 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo. Translucent and pretty, the 2017 is a touch ethereal, but there is a good bit of tannic grip. Because of low yields in Barolo, Maria Teresa Mascarello made this wine from purchased grapes from San Rocco Seno d'Elvio, which is in the Barbaresco zone.Inc. GSTSG$192.10 -

The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo offers plenty of charm and immediacy. Dark cherry, spice, tobacco and leather are nicely pushed forward. There is plenty to like in the 2018, even if the Nebbiolo does not reach the heights of the very best editions.Inc. GSTSG$861.58 -

The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo is sublime. Dark cherry, plum, lavender licorice and crushed flowers infuse the 2020 with striking detail. Fresh and vibrant, with terrific depth and character, the 2020 shows how captivating this vintage is. The Langhe Nebbiolo is made from purchased fruit sourced in Barbaresco, Treiso and Alba. It saw a relatively short ferment and was aged in cask for two years. It is essentially a Barbaresco in all but name, intentionally done in a forward, early drinking style.Inc. GSTSG$254.23 -

Halliday Wine Companion (96)
Fruit off the Leongatha vineyard, destemmed, wild-yeast fermented, left 2 weeks on skins and aged in French oak, 25% new, for 14 months. A selection of the best barrels was then put aside for the Estate. Striking aromatics set the scene: a heady mix of florals, forest floor, blood orange and spiced cherries. The palate unfurls with a core of sweet-savoury flavours from fruit and oak, fine tannins and everything superbly integrated and aligned. There’s complexity, detail and definition all in one.Inc. The Real Review (95)
Medium full ruby with a tinge of purple; the aromas are of red fruits, the profile lean and elegant, with bountiful drying tannins, and touches of foresty pinot mystery. The wine is lean and drying on the aftertaste. Nice elegant wine, worth a little cellaring also.Inc. GSTSG$728.16 -

(6x75cl) 2021The Real Review (98)
Full ruby with purple tints and the bouquet is earthy/broken rock, ferrous/iron-like qualities with a touch of oak adding a smoky, fivespice aroma note and aftertaste. The wine is deep and mouth-filling, showing good concentration and drive, muscle and grip, and an enduring aftertaste. A big, dramatic finish: a peacock's tail. Beautiful aromatics: a serious pinot noir indeed.Inc. GSTSG$1,792.40 -
(6x75cl) 2022Halliday Wine Companion (97)
All up, this spends 14 months in French oak (36% new) and the outcome is an impressive wine. No wallflower as it’s rich, ripe, full-bodied and laden with aromas and flavours of dark cherries, florals, joss sticks, chinotto, baking spices and garrigue. Raw silk tannins flood the palate, so, too the sweet fruit; concentrated and powerful, yet there’s a succulence and vitality within. A lot to consider, including cellaring for a few years before drinking. And yet, for hedonists, there’s an innate beauty making this irresistible now.Inc. GSTSG$1,922.17 -
