Jeb Dunnuck (97)The 2022 Château La Clotte is another serious wine in the lineup. Mulled black cherries, liquid violets, spicy wood, and smoky, chocolaty nuances are just some of this wine’s nuances, and it's medium full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It's one hell of a gorgeous Saint-Emilion that deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for two decades. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)The reworking of La Clotte under the Vauthier family continues to impress, and this is one to look out for. The terroir was always there, and the precise vineyard work is now fully accentuating the iris and lily floral aromatics, the arresting slate and pumice stone texture, where autumnal fruits are sweet and ripe, cassis pastille and raspberry puree, but they take second place to the fennel, annis, cold ash, rhubarb, lavender. One of my wines to watch in this vintage, demands attention. |

Jeb Dunnuck (95)The flagship cuvée is the 2016 Rasteau La Fontaine, which is 85% old vine Grenache with 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah, destemmed and brought up in tank. Deep ruby/purple-colored with a smoking nose of blackcurrants, toasted spices, cured meats, and graphite, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a rounded, sexy texture, great acidity, and a huge finish. It's a classic, grand, balanced Rasteau. |

Wine Advocate (93)Another brilliant wine from the talented Jean-Philippe Janoueix, this blend of 68% Merlot and 32% Cabernet France produced a wine that came in just under 15% natural alcohol. Of course, the vineyard is near Clos Fourtet, and it seems as though a lot of properties in that band of terroir did incredible jobs in 2009. A big, black/purple-colored wine with notes of blackberries, licorice, graphite, truffle and some subtle, toasty oak, the wine is full-bodied and unctuously textured, with loads of glycerin, fruit, and a massive, velvety textured finish. This superb wine should drink well for 15 or more years. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)The 2019 La Confession is bright, floral and nicely lifted. Crushed raspberry, mint, blood orange, spice and mocha give the 2019 its freshness and energy. This soft, fruity Saint-Émilion is a real charmer. Drink it over the next decade or so. |

La Connivence 2009 defines elegant decadence with its deep ruby hue, potent black fruit and truffle nose, and seamlessly integrated tannins. The opulent palate reveals an evolving complexity; a crescendo of dark berries, ripe plums, and hints of mocha with a lingering, velvety finish. Wine Advocate (94)Having tasted the 1982 Château La Conseillante on numerous occasions, it is fair to say that it has become overshadowed by the 1989 and 1990. Yet it remains not only a prosaically delicious Pomerol, but it represents the beginning of a new era for the estate after treading water since the 1960s. This was tasted blind. It has a beautiful, sensual if slightly faded bouquet with mulberry fruit tinged with sage and even a suggestion of black olive that tugs it towards Pessac-Léognan. It lacks the horsepower of the 1989 and 1990, but it is delineated and winsome. The palate is medium-bodied and is brimming over with both finesse and intensity. The quality of the vintage still comes through here, surprisingly deep and voluminous, not as structured as subsequent vintages, but gently fanning out with a subtle wild mushroom note betraying its age on the aftertaste. The bottom line is that this is a lovely, natural La Conseillante perfect for drinking now. Tasted March 2014. |

Wine Advocate (96)La Conseillante made an excellent wine in 2001, another great one in 2005, and the estate hit home runs in both 2008 and, above all, in 2009. In fact, the latter vintage may well end up being the modern-day reference point for La Conseillante. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to be said for this 2000. An elegant, gentle style that is never a blockbuster, the 2000 La Conseillante has a deep ruby/plum/purple color and an unbelievably expressive nose of sweet kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, incense, toast, and licorice. Full-bodied yet ethereal in the sense that it seems to combine power along with eloquence and delicacy, this is a beautifully pure wine that has just hit its plateau of full maturity, although ideally I think it would benefit strongly from another 4-5 years of bottle age and drink well for two to three decades. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (97)The 2005 La Conseillante is a rich, heady Pomerol. Crème de cassis, lavender, chocolate, leather, espresso, licorice and sweet French oak infuse the 2005 with tremendous character. The 2005 is, naturally, a wine of its era. There is quite a bit of extraction and tannin, and yet the wine has aged impeccably. Time in the glass brings out energy and aromatic lift to round things out nicely. The 2005 just got better and better with time, so I suggest giving it a good bit of air. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade or so. |
