Clean veins of minerality frame the saline, mineral-drenched finish in a mid-weight, contemporary Barolo with immense appeal. This is a great showing from Chiara Boschis. The 2010 has it all; perfume, fruit, intense, crystalline salinity and bracing, chalky, young Nebbiolo tannins that will help the wine age gracefully for years. Beginning in 2010, the Via Nuova is a multi-vineyard Barolo comprised of fruit from Terlo, Liste, Gabutti, Baudana, Ravera (di Monforte) and young vines in Mosconi. Chiara Boschis had trademarked Via Nuova as a proprietary name. Up until 2010 Via Nuova was an alternate name for the Terlo vineyard in Barolo. Going forward, all wines from that site must be called Terlo. In the meantime, Boschis acquired a number of small parcels, each too small in scale to be bottled separately, so she chose to make one multi-commune Barolo and keep her existing Via Nuova name. The Chiara Condello 2020 Romagna Sangiovese Predappio Riserva Le Lucciole (a certified organic wine) delivers a bright and punchy character, which, unlike the more concentrated Lo Stralisco, is very lifted and vertical in personality. There is ample freshness here that leads to lots of energy and zest over a mid-weight close. This is my favorite wine in this group. Unfortunately, production is limited to 4,500 bottles.
