The 2016 Estate Cuvée has turned out beautifully. Pliant, supple and inviting, the 2016 Estate Cuvée is one of the most refined wines I have tasted from Kapcsándy. Silky tannins and lifted, savory aromatics add to an impression of polish. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with 7% Malbec and 6% Cabernet Franc and spent 22 months in seasoned French oak. It has a classy bouquet of expressive red berry fruit, cedar and light undergrowth aromas that leans toward the Left Bank. The palate is medium-bodied with great sapidity right from the start. The 2015 Syrah Topside has a lot of reduction on the nose, and this suppresses the brightness and fruit expression. The palate is better with succulent tannins, a keen line of acidity and an attractive black pepper note on the finish. But it feels "hemmed in" by the reduction. Note that it does respond to aeration and develops more freshness and vigor. I just think this needed a longer decant and if so, would achieve a higher score. Note that it does respond to aeration and develops more freshness and vigor. I just think this needed a longer decant and if so, would achieve a higher score.
