Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)
An even mid ruby colour, lovely cherry and raspberry, a few tannins behind, medium plus concentration of really attractive fruit, picked at the right time, with good length and just a little bit of the southern herbal character that Etienne Grivot associates with this vineyard. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Nov 2024.Inc. GSTSG$1,667.05 -
Wine Advocate (90-92)
The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières, located just under Aux Murgers and matured in 20% new oak, has an engaging, floral bouquet with dark berry fruit, just a hint of blood orange and cola emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, plenty of edgy red berry fruit, a gentle but insistent grip in the mouth with impressive persistence on the finish, especially for a village cru. This comes recommended.Inc. GSTSG$224.08 -
(1x75cl) 2018Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières comes across a bit moody and sullen from barrel, especially after the livelier Les Charmois. Raspberry and wild strawberry scents eventually emerge, albeit reluctantly. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Very poised and quite mineral-driven, this conveys fine energy and a satisfying sense of strictness toward the black-pepper-tinged finish. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$184.11 -

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières is initially tight on the nose, opening slowly to offer black cherries, blueberry and clementine peel. The palate is medium-bodied with a mixture of red and black fruit, and refreshingly saline in the mouth, particularly on the oyster-shell-tinged finish. Plenty of energy here, even if it’s not the best Grivot Nuits Saint-Georges this vintage.Inc. GSTSG$755.87 -
(1x75cl) 2020Falstaff (93)
Ripe red cherry and gentle woodsmoke on the nose are subsumed into a wonderfully fresh, bright nose. The palate is juicy, elegant, sculptured and precise. Testament to this domaine's exacting and meticulous approach. The finish is fine, fresh, pure, balanced and vivid.Inc. GSTSG$145.96 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)
A touch deeper in colour than the Vosne, but not markedly so, A darker fruit, a sighting of the traditional Nuits-St-Georges plums along with the fresher raspberry of this vintage. Fuller bodied than the Vosne-Romanée, perhaps a little less finesse, so both are true to their appellations. Well managed tannins to finish, and persistent. Drink from 2025-2031.Inc. GSTSG$142.68 -

A little deeper in ruby colour. A pleasing mid ripeness to the fruit, this Nuits Lavières is beautifully balanced, with a fine mineral crunch following the solid and persistent raspberry fruit. Fine length. Elegant for Nuits, yet with a well defined structure. Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. GSTSG$191.73 -

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)
The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières is understated on the nose, with a mixture of red and black fruit, rose petals and light blueberry scents. This is Vosne-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied and lightly spiced with finely spun tannins and a touch of cracked black pepper. This is an animated Aux Lavières that I feel might shade the previous vintage. It's very fine, very nuanced.Inc. GSTSG$142.68 -

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Charmois comes from a cold terroir that confers an advantage in this kind of growing season. It has a very fragrant, well-defined bouquet of red cherries, crushed strawberry and orange pith. Not complex, but there is lovely purity here. The palate is medium-bodied with quite fine, sharp tannins. There is good tension and mineralité in this Les Charmois, and the saline finish gets the saliva flowing. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$4,770.84 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Charmois has slightly more red fruit than the Aux Lavières, hints of potpourri and lavender complementing the cranberry jus and red currants; more cassis aromas develop later. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very sensual and harmonious. The sorbet-fresh finish delivers black cherry fruit laced with citrus fruits. Very fine.Inc. GSTSG$1,268.17 -

(12x75cl) 2004Vinous (92+)
Full medium red. Aromas of black raspberry, minerals and flowers. Silky and supple, with restrained sweetness buffered by well-integrated acidity. Nicely dense and full-and quite concentrated for the vintage. This very fresh wine finishes long and solid. I'd hold off a good five or six years on this. Grivot told me that he leaves up to 12 clusters per vine here, as he does in his Echezeaux, due to the concentrating and yield-reducing effect of millerandageInc. GSTSG$15,692.64 -
(6x75cl) 2005Decanter (98)
Full colour. Splendidly concentrated and complex on the nose, but still very closed in. Full body, finely tuned, fragrant, understated and very harmonious. Vigorous, intense and very classy indeed on the follow through. This is excellent.Inc. GSTSG$18,130.47 -
(6x75cl) 2007Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-95)
Good bright, deep red. Raspberry, minerals, flowers and smoke on the soil-driven nose. Silky on entry, then broad, elegant and deep, with vibrant flavors of dark berries, blood orange and minerals. This really fills the mouth with perfume and saturates the palate on the aftertaste, but there's no excess weight here. The very fine tannins are in perfect harmony with the wine's fruit. This will benefit from eight to ten years of cellaring.Inc. GSTSG$12,872.25 -
Burghound (96)
A gorgeously spiced and perfumed nose is intensely floral in character while offering up notes of both red and dark currant, sandalwood, exotic Asian-style tea and discreet dried rose petal nuances. The muscular yet refined big-bodied flavors exude ample minerality onto the powerful, focused and once again compact, focused and explosively long finish. This too is indisputably built-to-age and I wouldn't be surprised if it required fully 20 years before it is fully ready. In sum this Richebourg is one of the finest wines of the 2014 vintage.Inc. GSTSG$1,481.21 -
Vinous (98)
The 2016 Richebourg Grand Cru is deep in colour compared to its peers. The bouquet is just stunning: laser-like focus of black cherries, bilberry, crushed stone and iris flowers that blossom with aeration, seeming to gain intensity with every passing moment. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and perhaps more black than red fruit. Extremely well delineated with wonderful salinity, this begins to fan out on the finish. Then, remembering that it is just a baby, it tapers back in to remind you that it will need 10 to 15 years in the cellar before it reaches full flight. This is a fabulous wine. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.Inc. GSTSG$2,042.56 -
Vinous (96-98)
The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru has a showstopping, persistent bouquet of intense blackberry, sous-bois and crushed stone. The supremely well-balanced palate offers filigreed tannin, wonderful mineralité and an otherworldly-long finish. One of the most elegant Richebourgs that I have tasted. Best Richebourg in show this year? Quite possibly. Six barrels produced.Inc. GSTSG$1,633.81 -

Burghound (97)
As it was from barrel, the cool, restrained and even more layered nose requires considerable swirling to progressively coax the exuberantly spicy aromas of red and blue pinot fruit that is liberally laced with a variety of floral elements to reveal themselves. There is excellent volume and richness to the sleek and refined yet powerful flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract that helps to buffer the firm but not rigid tannic spine shaping the strikingly long and linear finish. This is brilliant but note well that like the 2019 version, it's going to require extended cellaring to realize its full, and considerable, potential.Inc. GSTSG$2,021.12 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)
A glowing crimson purple. A certain nobility to the nose. A brilliant combination of hedonism and precision, the expressive dense floral notes, waves of perfectly ripe red fruit, and that’s just the bouquet. Suave, sweetly fruited, nuanced, yet never losing site of the grace and the depth. Caresses all parts. Seamless finish with perfect acid and tannin balance. Drink from 2034-2045+. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. GSTSG$2,058.55 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (96-98)
The 2023 Richebourg Grand Cru has a typical nose for this vineyard, backward and a little stern at first. Its tightly wound redcurrant, cranberry and black plum fruit notes become more open with acquaintance. Apparently, it was very open the previous day, but this is in a mood! The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure and a beguiling sense of symmetry from start to finish. This might be the most elegant Richebourg that I have encountered from Grivot at this stage. It's very poised with an extremely long aftertaste. This will require serious cellaring.Inc. GSTSG$3,193.59 -

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has an inviting and quite sensual bouquet of crushed ripe strawberries, cranberry, touches of cassis and violet, showing good intensity. The palate is intense on the entry. No hanging about here; just penetrating spicy black fruit with a satin-like texture and a vibrant sorbet-like finish that leaves the mouth tingling with pleasure. Superb.Inc. GSTSG$2,129.27 -
(12x75cl) 1997Vinous (86)
Slightly fuller red. Spicy redcurrant, plum and a floral note on the nose. At once softer and less sweet than the '97 Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Charmois, but also a bit more diffuse. And yet this seems less evolved, less forthcoming today. Here the tannins are silkier, though.Inc. GSTSG$4,484.04 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brulées is distinguished by its gorgeous inner intensity and a solid core of expressive red fruit. Firm, powerful, yet also impeccable refined, the Brulées needs a few years to open up. The balance of fruit and tannin is impeccable. At times, the Brulées is at times a bit wild in its aromas and flavors, but texturally it is more polished. There is no shortage of personality here.Inc. GSTSG$505.30 -
(6x75cl) 2013Vinous (91-93)
Medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of raspberry, flint, pepper and smoky minerals. Fine-grained and seamless but at the same time vibrant and penetrating, offering lovely inner-mouth lift to the crunchy raspberry and pomegranate flavors. Finishes with subtle saline minerality and smooth tannins. Already very sexy but it would be a shame not to give this premier cru at least five years in the cellar.Inc. GSTSG$2,928.26
