(from vines more than 50 years of age): Bright, healthy red. Very pure and vibrant but reticent aromas of raspberry, smoked meat and flowers. More pliant and sweet than the foregoing samples, offering captivating pinot fin inner-mouth perfume. Plenty of flesh here to support the wine's spine. Suave tannins spread out to saturate the palate on the vibrant, weightless back end. Lovely finesse here, and a classic example of the house style.Inc. GSTSG$230.97 -

Burghound (91)
As is usually the case, this is aromatically more elegant with its cool, airy and layered nose of mostly essence of red cherry and a mix of spice elements. The succulent, delicious and nicely textured medium-bodied flavors possess excellent punch while concluding in a lightly austere and mineral-driven if somewhat drying finale. Once again, the tannins do seem ripe so the dryness is very probably allied to the recent bottling and my rating offers the benefit of the doubt.Inc. GSTSG$1,502.89 -

(75% new oak): Good bright red-ruby. Expressive, nuanced nose offers redcurrant, spicy oak, flowers, menthol, licorice and a whiff of game. Sweet and fine-grained, with juicy, intense red fruit flavors picking up notes of licorice and bitter chocolate with air. Not particularly fleshy, in fact a bit youthfully severe today. Impressively deep, bright ruby-red color. Very ripe aromas of blackberry, kirsch and game; clearly the most sauvage of these 2012s. Big, chewy and concentrated, with a slightly high-toned, chocolatey ripeness to the cassis and blackberry flavors. The tannins are ripe but still a bit rough. Can't match the Estournelles Saint-Jacques for refinement but this is a much riper style. This, too, calls for patience.Inc. GSTSG$2,282.90 -

Bright red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, white pepper and wild herbs. Juicy, spicy and penetrating, with the pepper and herb elements carrying through on the palate. In a very tight stage today, showing the brisk acidity it displayed from barrel a year ago but hiding its richness. Bright red-ruby. Knockout nose combines raspberry, black cherry, dried rose, wild herbs, mint and white pepper. Penetrating, tight and stony, with terrific juicy energy and grip to the berry, licorice and cardamom flavors. No sign of overripeness here! Finishes with terrific spine and an impression of youthfully austerity. Captivating ginger and lemon rind notes add complexity and grip. Lovely finesse here, and a classic example of the house style. In BondSG$202.00 -

Once again, the tannins do seem ripe so the dryness is very probably allied to the recent bottling and my rating offers the benefit of the doubt. In BondSG$1,260.00 -

But finishes primary and fresh, with emerging mineral character. In BondSG$349.00 -

This, too, calls for patience. In BondSG$2,035.00 -

Vinous (92+)
Bright red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, white pepper and wild herbs. Juicy, spicy and penetrating, with the pepper and herb elements carrying through on the palate. In a very tight stage today, showing the brisk acidity it displayed from barrel a year ago but hiding its richness. The Clos de Bèze has more material and depth, but with its substantial tannins this taut wine may need at least as long to come into harmony. In BondSG$1,740.00 -
Vinous (93-96)
Bright red-ruby. Knockout nose combines raspberry, black cherry, dried rose, wild herbs, mint and white pepper. Penetrating, tight and stony, with terrific juicy energy and grip to the berry, licorice and cardamom flavors. No sign of overripeness here! Finishes with terrific spine and an impression of youthfully austerity. Captivating ginger and lemon rind notes add complexity and grip. I don't think I would have picked this compellingly perfumed wine blind as a 2009. Along with the 2009 Bonnes-Mares, this has to be one of the most promising wines to date from Fred Magnien. In BondSG$5,025.00 -

Bright, dark ruby-red. Very ripe but primary aromas of red fruits, smoky minerality and licorice, plus a topnote of blood orange. In a distinctly spicy style, showing terrific chalky lift and powerful underlying minerality. This very highly concentrated wine shows some superripe notes but also terrific definition and energy. Ultimately more complex and delineated than Magnien's Bonnes-Mares bottling. Finishes very long, with big, ripe tannins reaching the front teeth. In BondSG$1,480.00 -

Bright medium red. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe red berries, red cherry, rose petal and crushed stone.
