  • El Enemigo Gran Enemigo Gualtallary 2019 (1x300cl)

    James Suckling (100)

A complex, restrained and deliciously austere cabernet franc with damp earth, oyster shells, blueberries, thyme, rosemary and mushrooms. Super serious and chalky on the palate with lots of dissolved, minerally-textured tannins. Very long and uncompromising! An incredible cabernet franc from Gualtallary by Alejandro Vigil. Extremely pure, mineral and seductive. A fabulous cabernet franc that grows on the palate with remarkable tension and texture. I’d want to drink a bottle now even it can hold extremely well.

  • El Enemigo Gran Enemigo Gualtallary 2020 (1x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (99)

The 2020 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard is nothing but phenomenal. It's very fresh and balanced and, for a warm year like 2020, doesn't show any heat or excess; it's subtle and has an ethereal character within the powerful and exuberant character from Gualtallary. It fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts and some full clusters, sometimes up to 70% of the volume. It's intense and powerful, but something makes if feel light on its feet and with great inner power. This is still young and should develop nicely in bottle and for a long time. 9,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2021 after maturing in large oak foudres for 15 months.

  • El Enemigo Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Assortment 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 NV (4x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (100)

I was really looking forward to tasting the 2013 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard since all of the previous vintages have been truly exceptional, and I wanted to see what it would be in a cooler year. The bottled wine contains perhaps 15% Malbec in the blend, and they will soon stop mentioning Cabernet Franc on the label. It fermented in 500-liter oak barrels with 50% of the Cabernet Franc and all of the Malbec and then matured in used oak foudres. It's very intense and powerful, but at the same time, there is a kind of lightness on the palate that makes if feel light on its feet but with great inner power. There is citrus acidity that makes it effervescent and electric. It has some 7.5 grams of acidity and a pH of 3.45, very healthy parameters. The peppery character appears after some time, giving it a Chinon-like twist, and it also reminds me of my favorite Bordeaux, Pomerol's Lafleur. This is definitely world-class and worth lying down, as it should develop further complexity in bottle. This is one of those wines where the only improvement I can think of is having magnums rather than bottles. Bravo!

El Enemigo Gran Enemigo Gualtallary is a single vineyard (Gualtallary) production combining Cabernet Franc (dominant) and Malbec. After near misses in 2011 and 2012 in 2013 this amazing duo of winemakers produced the perfect wine in 2013. Wine Advocate critic Luis Gutiérrez said the 2013 reminded him of Pomorol’s Lafleur and was “definitely world class” and “worth laying down”. The 2013 has a drinking window to 2030 and all these wines will benefit from a decade of aging. Only around 3,000 bottles are produced, of this incredible wine (far less than wines like Screaming Eagle at 5,000-9,000).

Saturated violet. An expansive, spice-accented bouquet evokes cassis, cherry liqueur, fruitcake and potpourri; vanilla and woodsmoke nuances emerge with air. Juicy and deeply concentrated, offering palate-staining, appealingly sweet black and blue fruit preserve, violet pastille, licorice and mocha flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. The floral and mineral notes reverberate emphatically on an extremely long, spicy finish that features mounting tannins and a hint of bitter chocolate.

Displaying a similar color as well as personality and depth, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Ashmead exhibits a more scorched/roasted character to its nose, sweeter, more pliable and open-knit flavors, and nearly as much aging potential as the cooler vintage conditions produced in 2002. A beautiful, full-throttle, gutsy Cabernet Sauvignon, it can be drunk now and over the next 10-12 years.

  • Elena Fucci Aglianico Vulture Superiore Titolo Riserva 2013 (1x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

Here's a new discovery that I'd like to broadcast far and near. This Riserva is a new wine from Elena Fucci that was initiated with this vintage. It is a limited-edition wine made only in magnums. In fact, I tasted bottle number 1 of 400 made to write this review. The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva Titolo is a dark and savory expression with an evolved and profound bouquet that covers all the bases. It offers dried fruit and blackberry with smoke, ash and crushed river stone. That mineral identity is the wine's most important defining characteristic. Aglianico tends to deliver astringent tannins, but this Riserva shows excellent integration and structural management. A new benchmark wine for southern Italy has just been created.

  • Elena Fucci Aglianico Vulture Titolo 2015 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94)

The 2015 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo is gorgeous and geared toward the lover of all things earth and mineral. Here I’m finding a blend of ripe cherry, violets, crushed stone and ash, giving way to hints of dried orange peel and animal musk. The silky textures are contrasted by balsamic-tinged red berries, inner florals and marine-inspired minerality. The 2015 is energetic and spicy to the core, but so savory as well – more like food than wine. This tapers off long, zesty and vibrant, with saturating black fruits and tannins that come in late but linger for over a minute. This wine is a beast.

  • Elena Fucci Aglianico Vulture Titolo 2019 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (94+)

The 2019 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo is stunning. It opens with a bit of an exotic flair, mixing smoky plum and lavender with animal musk, crushed ashen stone and a whiff of sour citrus that lights up the senses. Then it enters the palate silky and pliant, quickly gaining in youthful tannic tension, but not before providing a preview of mentholated herbal tones and depths of mineral-laden dark fruits that will take center stage after a few years of cellaring. This finishes incredibly long yet structured, leaving a staining of primary concentration to linger under an air of pretty inner florals and savory spice. I believe the 2019 may one day rank among the best vintages ever produced of Elena Fucci’s Titolo.
  • Elena Fucci Aglianico Vulture Titolo 2021 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (96)

The 2021 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo 25th Anniversary requires an extended amount of time open in bottle or decanter before truly opening up to reveal its charms. A collage of sweet herbs, crushed rocks, underbrush, black olives and wild berries greets the senses with a tilt of the glass. This is luxuriously smooth, with a balanced inner sweetness and a cascade of mineral tones giving way to balsamic-infused blackberries and tart cherries. It leaves a tinge of sour citrus and rosemary to offset cheek-puckering tension and edgy tannins, finishing incredibly long yet with a welcoming structure that should permit pleasurable drinking after only a few years of cellaring.

  • El Porvenir Alto Los Cuises Malbec 2020 (3x75cl)

    Tim Atkin MW (97)

Now striding into its fourth vintage, Alto Los Cuises is a brilliant Malbec from a unique site of bush vines on rocky soils. Fermented with some whole bunches, it’s a red that’s partly inspired by the wines of Burgundy, with sappy, floral white pepper and raspberry flavours, fresh acidity and the faintest hint of wood spice.

  • Elderton Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (91)

Displaying a similar color as well as personality and depth, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Ashmead exhibits a more scorched/roasted character to its nose, sweeter, more pliable and open-knit flavors, and nearly as much aging potential as the cooler vintage conditions produced in 2002. A beautiful, full-throttle, gutsy Cabernet Sauvignon, it can be drunk now and over the next 10-12 years.

  • Elderton Command Shiraz 2000 (6x75cl)

    Wine Spectator (97)

Big and powerful, brimming with tarry, spicy black cherry, dark plum, blackberry and chocolate flavors. Rich and gooey like a warm flourless chocolate cake, yet it finds a plush balance that keeps it from veering off into heaviness. This has grace, harmony and refinement, without losing an ounce of power. Drink now through 2025. 600 cases imported. -HS

  • Elio Altare Barolo 2014 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (88)

Altare's 2014 Barolo is a soft, supple wine with the midweight structure of the year very much on display. Fruity, forward and open, it will drink well with minimal cellaring. The Altare Barolo has a track record of aging well. Even so, the 2014 is decidedly light, even within the context of the year.
