(6x75cl) 2013Vinous - Ian D'Agata (86-89)
Dark ruby-red. Aromas and flavors of blackberry syrup and vanilla, with strong torrefaction notes of smoke and coffee. Very smooth-verging-on-opulent, finishing with good length, but the rising tannins leave a hint of bitterness. This reminded me of a Roc de Cambes from a more successful vintage. Owner/winemaker Francois Mitjaville explained that this wine managed to be fleshy, supple and smoky because nearly tropical conditions softened the skins and broke down the tannins. Essentially, the grapes marinated, he told me. These conditions, according to Mitjavile, were not present on the hillsides where Roc de Cambes is made and explain why Domaine de Cambes is smoky and soft in 2013 while Roc is not. The production here was just 25 hectoliters per hectare, down 70% from normal.Inc. GSTSG$483.31 -

Tasted from a magnum purchased on release, the 1990 Domaine de Chevalier is a magnificent Pessac-Léognan, one that I was gobsmacked to find that I have never tasted before! It has one of those entrancing, tertiary, smoke and mushroom scented bouquets, secondary aromas that are beautifully defined and exude the essence of Pessac-Léognan. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, still plenty of black dusky fruit infused with pencil lead, tobacco and dried herbs such as rosemary and sage. (6x75cl) 2019The Domaine de Breseyme Côtes du Rhône Brezeme Rouge 2019 exemplifies the artistry of Southern Rhône winemaking. Crafted from a meticulous blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes harvested from the sun-kissed vineyards of Brézeme, this vintage reflects the unique terroir of the region. The grapes undergo careful hand sorting before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving their vibrant fruit character. A partial maceration process intensifies the wine's structure, followed by aging for 12 months in French oak barrels, imparting subtle vanilla and spice notes. The result is a harmonious wine with deep ruby hues, expressive aromas of red berries, plum, and a hint of floral undertones. On the palate, it offers balanced acidity, fine tannins, and a lingering finish, making it an exceptional choice for pairing with roasted meats and hearty dishes. This 2019 Brezeme Rouge is a testament to Domaine de Breseyme’s commitment to quality and tradition.

(12x75cl) 2011The Domaine de Cambes 2011 is an exceptional vintage that speaks volumes to the passion and ingenuity that the Bordeaux region's wine cultivation represents. This exquisite red blend is a creation from François Mitjavile's prestigious vineyards, nestled in the scenic banks of the Gironde river.
Domaine de Cambes 2011 bears Mitjavile's signature style of meticulous late harvesting, combined with the inimitable terroir of the Right Bank. The harvest yielded a profound, elegantly crafted blend of primarily Merlot with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, carefully fermented in large wooden vats and matured in French oak barrels for 18 to 24 months.
On pouring, Domaine de Cambes 2011 reveals a vibrant ruby hue, leading towards an exotic bouquet of ripe black fruits, spices and hints of espresso. Its velvety composition, balanced acidity and alluring complexity make it a prized asset to any connoisseur's collection.

The production here was just 25 hectoliters per hectare, down 70% from normal. In BondSG$384.00 -

The 2016 Domaine des Cambes is just as delicious from bottle as it was from barrel. Sumptuous and super-expressive, the 2016 is a beautifully forward, inviting wine. Dark cherry, plum, mocha and licorice are all generous in the glass, while there is more than enough underlying structure to support a number of years of very fine drinking. This is a lovely, and frankly irresistible, Côtes de Bordeaux from the Mitjavile family. In BondSG$482.00 -

The 2020 Domaine de Cambes has a perfumed, floral bouquet of black plum, bilberry and raspberry preserve infused with pressed iris and violet petals; fine delineation and focus here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and a little oaky at the moment, but there is an attractive underlying peppery, almost sage-like note that comes through on the finish. Give this 2–3 years once in bottle. In BondSG$360.00 -

The balance is delectable and it fans out beautifully on the finish. This is one of those wines that attest the greatness of Domaine de Chevalier, notwithstanding its longevity in great vintages.
