The 2017 Clos Marsalette is ripe, bold and juicy, with quite a bit of raciness and more overt ripeness than I remember seeing en primeur. At the same time, there is plenty of floral and savory lift from the Cabernets. Sweet red plum, mint, sage, tobacco and cedar are all laced together in this super-expressive, inviting, mid-weight Pessac-Léognan Graves from Stephan von Neipperg. This is such a pretty wine. Tasted two times.Inc. GSTSG$480.65 -

The 2018 Clos Marsalette is quite bold and racy in this vintage and yet there is a good bit of underlying structure as well. Inky blue/purplish berry fruit, licorice and spice are all given an extra kick of juiciness. I really like the wine's extroverted personality. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot.Inc. The 2020 Clos Marsalette opens with a blast of dark cherry fruit, smoke, gravel, licorice and incense. A big, broad wine Clos Marsalette offers tremendous intensity from start to finish. I imagine it will require at least a few years in bottle to fully come together as the tannins are pretty incisive at this stage. The 2018 Clos René, for me the top-performing Pomerol within the western sector of the appellation, has a very well-defined and focused bouquet of perfumed blackberry, briary and truffle aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, fresh and tensile, leading into a classic Pomerol finish of black truffle, white pepper and light tobacco notes. This is a classy Pomerol that should age with style.Inc. GSTSG$391.75 -

(1x75cl) 2005Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny 2005 is a benchmark red from France’s Loire, Saumur-Champigny, long revered by leading critics for its depth and age-worthy poise. Produced from Cabernet Franc, it reflects Clos Rougeard’s uncompromising, traditional approach in the cellar: careful extraction to preserve fragrance and texture, followed by élevage in oak to frame the wine rather than dominate it.
The 2005 vintage delivers a savoury, finely layered profile: ripe dark berry fruit, dried herbs, graphite and tobacco nuances, and a signature mineral tension that carries through a long, precise finish. With time in bottle, the palate gains seamless integration and a supple, velvety flow while retaining vivid freshness. For connoisseurs seeking mature Cabernet Franc of rare pedigree, Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny 2005 offers authority, nuance and unmistakable place.

Dark ruby with a hint of garnet. Lovely violet lift to the aromas of ripe plum, black olive and licorice. Fresh and aromatic on the palate, showing noteworthy verve to the enormously rich flavors of sour cherry, wild flowers, smoky spices, licorice and mint. Finishes long and lively in spite of its concentration, with firm but smooth tannins. Nady believes this will evolve along the lines of the great warm vintages of the past like 1959 and 1947.Inc. Released in November 2021, after its customary five year stay in the cellar, the 2016 Le Clos is a wine that makes you say 'God this is good' as soon as you put a drop in your mouth before you sink into it. While it is already starting to open up and could be approached by the impatient wine lover, this has the tannins that will leave you licking your lips and abundant acidity making your mouth water. In combination with the fine concentration of fruit and long length, there's no hurry to open. On the drawn out finish, cherry, tea leaf and mushroom flavors linger on and on.Inc. GSTSG$688.34 -
