One of the slightly darker purple colours, with a ripe and dark edged fruit. I sense the whole bunches more here than in the Clos Vougeot. Becomes more nuanced further back on the palate, with greater energy to the fruit. The 2012 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts from Domaine du Clos Frantin was not the only wine from this Beaune stalwart that far exceeded expectations. Here, it has a pure nose with perfumed dark cherry and blueberry fruit, the oak here well integrated whilst maintaining fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, well judged acidity, tensile with a finish that fans out gloriously. There is outstanding intensity, muscle and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract on the sappy, mouth coating, robust and youthfully austere finish that goes on and on. The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru was picked on September 9 with 25% whole cluster and 35% new oak. It offers pretty cranberry and wild strawberry scents on the nose, well-defined, if not quite as complex as its peers. The palate is well balanced with crisp, slightly crunchy red berry fruit on the entry. There is something "playful" about this Les Malconsorts. The whole blends well together to a very classy finish. All the structural elements are in place while the raspberry fruit gains in intensity towards the back. Drink from 2028-2035.
