This wine delivers all the ripeness, fruit intensity and concentration that Moric has been known for for almost 20 years. The wine is less precise or transparent compared to the crus, but it's dense and complex on the nose (and palate), which is ethereal and spicy and immediately begs for a decanter. Here, the wine is rich, textured and elegant, unfolding its greatness only on the finish that leaves the concentration and power of the first palate for purity, mineral freshness and endless salinity. Each is about 400 meters in elevation, and all three have bush vines that are harvested at the same ripeness. The major difference lies in the soils, with this vineyard on granite, sandy soils that allow the roots to reach down deep (as much as five meters underground). These vines have a bigger canopy as a result, and the fruit maintains the most natural acidity (and low pH). Grippy, ferrous, salty and intense, it has lots of extract, a hint of tannin, notes of citrus, lanolin and gunflint and a pithy, mouth-watering finish. |
