Trapet Pere et Fils
About Trape Père et Fils
The Domaine was founded by Louis Trapet in 1870, who hailed from Southeastern France and chose to settle in Gevrey-Chambertin during the French Revolution. He gradually acquired prime vineyards in the appellation and by the 1920s, had become one of Burgundy’s most important vineyard owners. Fruit from their vineyards was regularly sold to top négociants such as Leroy, Drouhin and Liger-Belair and the Domaine only bottled their first wine with the 1959 vintage.
In 1990, the Domaine underwent a split, with Domaine Rossignol-Trapet managed by Nicolas and David Rossignol while the original Domaine became known as Domaine Trapet Père et Fils, currently managed by the fifth generation of the family, Jean-Louis Trapet.

The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru was picked on 7 September and a small plot around five days later. It has a beautiful, quite ethereal bouquet with a complex mélange of red and black fruit, the 80-90% whole bunch completely assimilated with wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, harmonious and smooth, immense depth and elegance as it fans out towards the finish with perfect sapidity. Sublime.Inc. GSTSG$4,181.76 -

5 Star Wine. Picked 28th September. A rich, indeed sumptuous purple. Exceptionally youthful bouquet with a little touch of new wood. A magical wine, which is entirely in balance. It is not just the concentration which moves to another level but the sublime and effortless suavity of texture. All in pure red fruit, nothing dark, my favourite alpine strawberries, but a host of other berries as well. Magical.Inc. GSTSG$2,076.23 -

Burghound (94-97)
(from 3 different parcels that total 1.85 ha). This is the most floral wine in the range with a huge array of such elements adding elegance to the poached plum, dark currant, smoked game, exotic tea and moderate wood aromas. The gorgeously textured, mineral-driven and overtly muscular big-bodied flavors possess a Zen-like harmony on the superbly long, complex and built-to-age finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is potentially spectacular and a wine that should amply reward 15 to 20 years of aging.Inc. GSTSG$6,899.05 -

The 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin is a haunting wine graced with exquisite aromatics and layers of silky fruit. This is all class and elegance. The 2010 boasts striking inner perfume and sweetness all the way through to the finish. There is a level of textural brilliance and finesse here that is just plain gorgeous. Trapet's 2011 Chapelle-Chambertin is a model of precision and elegance. Sweet tobacco, incense, orange peel and wild flowers all lift from the glass. There is plenty of underlying fruit and structure to fill out the wine's classic-feeling frame. The Chapelle finishes with fabulous freshness and energy. This is a terrific showing. Chapelle is the warmest of Trapet's three Grand Cru sites. The 2011 is a beauty. I won't be surprised if it ages gracefully for many years.Inc. GSTSG$1,925.46 -

The 2015 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru has a flipping gorgeous bouquet with perfumed black cherries and blueberry fruit intermingling with subtle undergrowth and woodland aromas. It has razor-sharp precision and superb focus. The palate is medium-bodied with very crisp tannin. There is impressive precision in situ, a beguiling sense of energy percolation through the red berry fruit, merging with more black fruit towards the finish. It actually bears similarities to Domaine Dugat's Chapelle Chambertin this year, both exuding terroir expression and joie-de-vivre. This is superb.Inc. GSTSG$3,941.96 -

The 2017 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru contains around 60% whole bunches. It has a divine bouquet, so pure and bewitching with pressed violet tinged black cherry and raspberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent black fruit. The 50% new oak is nicely integrated, firming up towards a foursquare and quite masculine finish that should see it age for up to 20 years. Great potential.Inc. GSTSG$2,415.96 -

The 2018 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru shows some clever use of stem, quite focused and well-defined, wonderful Pinoté here, very fragrant and floral. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannins, fresh and quite saline with a vibrant, animated finish that has impressive sapidity for the vintage. There is a beguiling sense of completeness here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.Inc. GSTSG$894.43 -

The 2021 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru, the first Grand Cru to be picked with 50% whole clusters, has a fragrant, pure and (unlike Latricières) inviting bouquet that just wants to seduce. (the yield here was just 15 hectoliters per hectare, according to Jean-Louis Trapet): Good bright medium red. Deeper on the nose than the preceding village wines, offering aromas of plum, currant, roast coffee and cocoa. Graceful, fine-grained wine, offering very good depth, intriguing saline minerality and noteworthy precision. More floral than herbal. The persistent finish features a subtle sweetness and suave tannins that saturate the sides of the tongue. This will be Trapet's only premier cru bottling from the 2016 vintage.Inc. GSTSG$1,126.52 -

A discreet but not invisible dose of wood does not detract from the purity of the elegant and airy array of red currant, rose petal, lavender and forest floor scents. There is first-rate tension and delineation to the more obviously mineral-driven middle weight flavors that culminate in a firm, linear and driving finish. This is a classy Petite Chapelle that is built-to-age and will need at least 7 to 8 and should amply repay 12 to 15.Inc. GSTSG$2,533.16 -

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin La Petite Chapelle 1er Cru, blended with 80% whole bunch, has a tightly-wound bouquet with crushed stone infusing the blackcurrant and raspberry scents, a nuanced Earl Grey scent percolating through with time. Vinous (92-94)
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru is slightly spicier and more savoury than Trapet's other cuvées, light chalky scents percolating through the dark berry fruit.
