The 2010 Nuits St. Georges La Richemone Ultra, from a vineyard planted in 1902, is super-finessed and classy. The fruit seems to hover on the palate. Dark cherries, plums, sweet spices and mint are some of the many notes that come together in the glass. The precise, understated finish is beautifully articulated. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.Inc. GSTSG$6,750.33 -

The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Richemoines Cuvee Ultra comes from a small parcel of vines planted back in 1902. It includes 50% whole cluster fruit and there are three barrels this year. It has an enticing bouquet with black cherries, cracked black pepper, tertiary notes and a little undergrowth. The palate has more matiere than the regular cuvee with a fine line of acidity and just a touch more backbone towards the persistent finish. This is very fine and should age well over the next 15 years.Inc. GSTSG$3,805.71 -
Wine Advocate (89-91)
The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru La Richemoines Cuvée Ultra has a clean and precise, mineral-driven bouquet that is a little austere at the moment, but that will fill out. There is great terroir expression here and real energy. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit on the entry. This is nice structured, grippy in the mouth with good tension. What is needs is a little more flesh to develop towards the finish, as it does come across as very linear and strict at the moment. Let's see how it performs in bottle.Inc. GSTSG$1,854.61 -

Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Combe d'Orveau Ultra. Brooding, highly complex aromas of black cherry, blackberry, tea leaf, game bird and leather. Dense and very intense, with terrific medicinal reserve to the opulent flavors of dark cherry, dark berries and menthol. Can't match the Combe d'Orveau for sheer perfume but this gripping wine shows outstanding finesse of texture for Nuits-Saint-Georges. Very long and very youthful on the back end.Inc. GSTSG$10,767.89 -

Bright full red. Wonderfully vibrant scents of raspberry, cherry, peppery spices, flowers, licorice and bitter chocolate. Silky, saline and dense, conveying a restrained sweetness and distinct soil complexity to the flavors of dark raspberry and smoky minerals. The wine's richness and depth are perfectly cut by mineral-driven energy. This sharply delineated wine finishes with noble tannins and excellent length.Inc. GSTSG$2,909.65 -
Vinous (94-96)
The 2019 Nuit-Saint-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" has a very intense bouquet that threatens to overwhelm the sense: black cherries, boysenberry, violet with hints of sage and orange rind. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that caress the sense, very Vosne-like in style with a satin-textured and very luxurious finish. This will be impossible to resist in its youth so don’t say I didn’t warn you.Inc. GSTSG$6,364.95 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a tightly wound bouquet, dark plum and raspberry fruit, a touch of blackberry, the oak nicely integrated although it is staying inside its shell for the time being. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red cherry and raspberry fruit, the tannins finer than I was anticipating, the acidity well judged as it segues into a backward but focused, quite structured finish. Christophe Perrot-Minot's Beaux Monts has very good potential. Tasted September 2016.Inc. GSTSG$2,497.71 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a very attractive, expressive bouquet of quite precocious macerated red cherries, kirsch, orange sorbet and hints of crème de cassis, a little showy but irresistible. The silky-smooth palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, more understated than the aromatics, and the finish is very cohesive and charming. Maybe it would benefit from more length, but it feels very natural and refined at the moment.Inc. GSTSG$2,802.91 -

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a clean, precise bouquet with bunches of crushed violet filtered through the black cherry and blueberry fruit. The palate is very elegant on the entry, velvety in texture with a precocious yet controlled finish of blood orange infused dark cherry and cassis fruit. This is very harmonious and will be dangerously seductive in its youth, but it clearly has the substance to last.Inc. GSTSG$5,318.55 -
