(1x75cl) 2006Vinous (92+)
Good deep red. Slightly high-toned aromas of blueberry, violet, licorice and spicy oak. Juicy, fresh and precise; in fact, a bit folded in on itself in the early going and not yet expressive. The firmly tannic finish features superb vibrancy and breadth, not to mention purity of flavor. Fourrier notes that the berries were small in 2006 but retained unusually strong acidity due to the cold August following a hot July.Inc. GSTSG$474.04 -
Vinous (93)
Good full red. Wild small red fruits are lifted by pungent minerality on the nose. Bright and high-pitched on the palate, showing the captivating sweetness of the year but dominated by its tannic spine today. At once sweeter and firmer than the Cherbaudes, and more vertical in its shape. Finishes with superb lingering perfume. I'd wait three or four years on this beauty. At this point in our tasting, Fourrier told me that acidity levels at this domain were higher in 2007 than in 2005.Inc. GSTSG$470.77 -
(6x75cl) 2009Vinous (93+)
The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Le Combe Aux Moines is a dazzling wine loaded with superb richness and depth in its dark red fruit. This shows marvelous power and a seamless quality to the fruit that is head spinning in its beauty. The finish turns positively explosive. This is gorgeous juice!Inc. GSTSG$3,057.95 -
Vinous (92+)
Healthy medium red. Slightly stunted but pure aromas of red berries and black cherry are less exuberant than those of the Champeaux. Also more restrained and tightly wound in the mouth, but with vibrant acidity and a sensation of peppery grip giving the wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Classic 2013 in its tautness and cut. Finishes ripely tannic and long; this should be a beauty with mid-term cellaring.Inc. GSTSG$6,716.49 -
(6x75cl) 2014Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1Er Cru Combe Aux Moines was another barrel sample that was showing a little reduction, although it soon brushes that away with fleshy red cherry, strawberry and tinned apricot aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, a killer line of acidity, fresh and vibrant with superb mineralité towards the energetic finish. This has great potential.Inc. GSTSG$2,783.27 -
Decanter (96)
Combe Aux Moines is something of a signature wine from Fourrier alongside his Clos-St-Jacques. Reflecting its elevated position, this is a bright, aromatic, wonderfully refreshing style with some ferrous notes and a smooth, balanced finish.Inc. GSTSG$428.27 -

(5-Star wine) A rich even purple colour. The bouquet is very classy, in a restrained but refined manner suggesting more opulence to come. Just a touch of pepper. Dark raspberry, complex, juicy, structured, it is all there with a persistence that outstrips the other Gevrey 1ers crus tasted to date.Inc. GSTSG$438.08 -

5 Star Wine. The vines were planted in 1928, on the flat in the quarry, but surrounded by walls of rock. A rich bright purple. Huge energy. Very stylish on the palate, glossy yet complete, darker fruit here with a little pepper at the finish. A really impressive fine long finish with great depth. Drink from 2030-2036. (6x75cl) 2005Vinous (92)
Good deep red with ruby highlights. Dark raspberry, blackberry, mocha and minerals on the nose. Sweet and rich but fresh, with terrific sappy intensity to the dark fruit flavors. Wonderfully supple and smooth on the back end, finishing with ripe, broad tannins. Today the wine's volume completely hides its underlying spine.Inc. GSTSG$5,029.70 -
(1x300cl) 2014Vinous (91-93)
Bright, dark red. Black cherry, licorice and spices on the nose. Seriously concentrated flavors of raspberry and saline minerality display noteworthy tactile depth and energy. Densely packed, sweet and long, with very suave tannins.Inc. GSTSG$1,363.20 -
(6x75cl) 2017Vinous (91-93)
They 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru has an elegant and refined bouquet with pretty red cherries, raspberry preserve and rose petals scents - one of the most charming from Fourrier this year. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite tensile from the start and there is a spicy undercurrent that becomes more noticeable towards the finish. There is fine tension and energy here, with a potent peppery aftertaste. Good potential.Inc. GSTSG$2,806.10 -
(1x75cl) 2018Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru is very floral and perfumed on the nose, so much so that if served blind I might guess it came from Vosne-Romanée. The lightly spiced palate is well balanced, with ripe black cherry and wild strawberry fruit and a touch of blood orange toward a finish of moderate length. This just needs to shake off its conservatism.Inc. GSTSG$615.75 -

Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)
The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Champeaux 1er Cru has a floral bouquet featuring white flowers borrowed from the Cherbaudes mingling with wild strawberry and raspberry fruit notes. Hints of black fruit emerge with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh opening. It's very elegant, quite Rousseau-like and fleshy toward the caressing finish. This is one of the best wines from Fourrier this year.Inc. GSTSG$2,345.11 -
Vinous (90-92)
Good deep red. Reduced nose dominated by smoked meat. Then deep, ripe and aromatic in the mouth, with a blackberry flavor complicated by a gamey nuance. Concentrated, fine-grained and sappy, conveying a glyceral impression. Finishes quite suave and expressive, with broad, fine tannins and lovely lingering perfume.Inc. GSTSG$3,061.22 -
(12x75cl) 2007Vinous (92)
Good medium red. Red raspberry, smoky minerality and a whiff of crushed rocks on the inviting nose. Dense, ripe and impressively rich, with the rocky quality carrying through in the mouth and leavening the wine's impression of glyceral sweetness. Wonderfully round, broad wine with a very long, ripely tannic, building finish.Inc. GSTSG$5,345.14 -
Wine Advocate (92)
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes is excellent, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of dark chocolate, cassis, wild berries and plums. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a layered core of crunchy fruit, fine structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish. While this is very elegant in style this year, it has more than enough substance to evolve in bottle for two decades or more.Inc. GSTSG$2,565.27 -
(3x75cl) 2017Vinous (91-93)
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Cherbaudes 1er Cru already has a cohesive, quite intense bouquet with violet petals that infuse the blueberry and black cherry fruit, just a hint of vanilla from the wood that will be assimilated by the time of bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-like freshness. There is plenty of blood orange towards the structured finish that feels precise and mineral-driven. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$1,059.19 -

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Cherbaudes 1er Cru feels a little reduced on the nose at first, but eventually black cherries, iodine and violet aromas begin to make their presence felt. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, strict and linear and perhaps not quite "kicking on" toward the finish, leaving you wanting more. Has it got something up its sleeve?Inc. The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Cherbaudes 1er Cru has an almost Morey-like personality on the nose: dark berry fruit, granitic scents, touches of forest floor and wild mushroom.
