Bouchard Père & Fils
Founded in 1731, Bouchard is one of the most long-standing and important producers in Burgundy. Since their founding, they have been assembling a collection of some of the best Cote d'Or vineyards, including 12 Grand Crus and no less than 74 1er Crus.
With more prestige and history than most, Vinous's Neal Martin has praised them in the past because their wines are "well priced compared to others". As a grower, producer and negociant, it is undeniable that Bouchard Père et Fils has played a significant role in the history of Burgundy but they have now shed their negociant tag as their new owner Artémis Domaines, who also own the likes of Château Latour and now Eisele Vineyard in Napa, have a policy of wishing only to make wines from vineyards which they own.

Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Meursault Les Gouttes d’Or 1er Cru has a more complex bouquet than the Bouchères with lanolin, dried honey and hazelnut aromas that unfold in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a zest opening: pink grapefruit, orange zest and a touch of spice, this has good weight on the finish. Fine. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)5 Star Wine. Racked to foudre. Really quite a magical nose, all the subtleties one hopes for in Genevrières, dancing fruit with pinpoint accuracy, enormously graceful fruit with some lemon tints. Retasted at an event on the eve of the Hospices de Beaune sale, the Genevrières soared even further up the quality scale. Drink from 2029-2038. Tasted Oct 2024. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)(5 Star Wine) The plot by the road is their first Meursault to pick. Half and half from their two plots, as there is much being replanting in the lower plot. Fine pale to mid lemon. Super refined complex bouquet. This beautifully refined quality continues on the palate, a little sandalwood note, a suggestion of verbena along with the golden yet fresh fruit. Nuances throughout but still with a refined generosity of flesh. The Bouchard Père & Fils Genevrières stands out this year! Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted: October 2023. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (94)The 2021 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru is a wine that I must have completely misjudged out of barrel (either that or it just was not showing that day). Here, it has a touch of reduction on the nose, which shaves away some of its nuance and personality, but this improves with aeration and finally I feel that the reduction is just right. The palate is well balanced, quite reductive, but there is a quality Meursault here and it just requires time. Lightly spiced with ample weight on the finish. Tuck this away for three or four years and you will be rewarded. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |

Tim Atkin MW (94)The 2 hectares 65 - with one parcel mid-slope and one further up - of this Premier Cru are always the first that Fr d ric harvests in Meursault. This is a delightful Genevri res, resplendent in floral aromas. The palate shows chamomile, vanilla extract, wild flower honey, pluots and green gauges. The mid-palate has a welcoming sappiness elevated by prancing acidity. 2022-30 |

Wine Advocate (92-94)Offering up notes of pear, white flowers, toasted almonds and beeswax, Bouchard's 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières is medium to full-bodied, satiny and chiseled, with a more tightly wound, introverted profile than the Charmes that preceded it. Built to age, this is a serious Genevrières that I look forward to tasting from bottle. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-94)More crimson than purple, with a lifted nose with strawberry smoky notes from 50% whole bunch. Very pretty indeed. Let’s see if there is enough depth on the palate for grand cru. Yes, there is a delicious weight of cherry and strawberry fruit in the middle with an infusion of white pepper, but nothing dry on the finish. 4 stars if you like whole clusters, three if not. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted: November 2022 |

Tim Atkin MW (94)These vines sit at 270 meters and more or less right on the limestone slab of the old quarry. Dried cranberries and pomegranate seeds offer tingly fruit vibrancy that gives the fruit a lofty, airy quality. The tannins tenderly nudge at the sides of the palate and fade gently on the lingering finish. 2023-30 |

Jancis Robinson (17)Cask sample. Mid garnet. Pale shaded rim. Intense nose with some sweet-and-salty character. It's not especially weighty but the nose is definitely more intense than that of the premiers crus. Edgy red-fruit and tamarind character. A bold wine. Long with quite a dry finish at this point. |

Vinous (94-97)Deep ruby-red. Superripe yet almost magically vibrant aromas of black fruits, chocolate liqueur and mint. Hugely concentrated, powerful and thick, with fruit of steel and great class. Finishes with uncanny breadth of tannins and persistence. An obvious knockout. Like the top grand crus from Bouchard, this will benefit from six to eight years of cellaring. |

Vinous (91)A dark, rich wine, the 1985 La Romanée opens with a rich, soy-infused mélange of aromas and flavors to match its demi-glace-like richness. Brown spices, licorice and worn-in leather add further shades of nuance. The 1985 is fully mature and exquisite, especially in the way layer after layer unfolds in the glass. This is a very beautiful, mature Burgundy that has reached its peak. |
