  • Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese Goldkapsel 2020 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

The 2020 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese (Golden Capsule) started pretty reductive and timid on the nose when I first tasted it straight from the bottle, but it became beautifully pure and refined after three days of aeration. Lush and voluptuous on the palate, this is an intense and sweet yet also very fine, balanced and elegant, subtly concentrated and finely tensioned Spätlese with good mineral length and fine salinity on the finish. The 2020 drinks very beautifully today (if you like it sweet and refined), but it will still taste fine in 10 to 15 years and be more complex. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 18 21 in July 2022.

  • Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese White Capsule 2020 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

The 2020 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese (White Capsule) is clear, pure, intense and refined, spicy and flinty on the nose that shows fully ripe, yellow-golden Riesling fruit combined with flinty/savory slate aromas. Lush and dense yet crystalline and refined on the palate, this is an elegant, very intense and saline, concentrated and substantial Sonnenuhr Spätlese that is, analytically and also sensorially, certainly an Auslese that reveals a concentrated, lemon-fresh, savory and stimulating bitter finish with great substance and class. This 2020 is remarkably complex and tensioned, but it has stimulating, zesty salinity and serious tannin structure. This impressive dry (or dry styled?) Spätlese will need another five to 10 years to open up and unfold its finesse and layers that it will easily keep for 50+ years, if cellared properly. 11.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Wine Advocate (97)

The 2020 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese ** (White Capsule) comes out pure and intense and with amazing finesse and complexity, reminiscent of ripe and warm stone fruit and chamomile aromas along with notes of almond cake and notes of weathered slate. On the palate, this is a spectacularly good two-starred Auslese with a concentrated but pristine texture but also refreshing phenolics on the saline finish. This is a sublime, nuanced and complex Riesling from one of the Mosel's most exciting vineyards where Molitor holds by far the majority. His 2020 Auslese ** is full of energy, tension and salinity, and dare I say, planet wine doesn't have that much to compete at this level of terroir expression and quality for a price of an incredible 40 euros ex-cellar. 12% stated alcohol. • Marquis d'Alesme 2018 (6x75cl)

A rock star Margaux that should be snatched up by readers, the 2018 Château Marquis D'Alesme reveals a dense purple hue as well as ripe, sexy notes of blackcurrants, spicy oak, tobacco leaf, earth, and cedar. Deep, full-bodied, and gorgeously concentrated, it has velvety tannins, a layered, mouthcoating texture, and a great finish. It's a baby, but wow, what a wine. • Mas Martinet Priorat Clos Martinet 2018 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

The flagship 2018 Clos Martinet is the wine that started it all and is still a blend of Garnacha (Tinta and Peluda), Syrah, Cariñena, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Monastrell as it was since the beginning but now with a restrained 13.5% alcohol and higher acidity. Clos Martinet is a single five-hectare terraced vineyard planted with clonal material in 1986 on decomposed llicorella slate, iron and big rocks in the soil. The varieties are co-fermented depending on the date picked—at three different ripening times—in two concrete vats and 200-liter oak vats with indigenous yeast and whole clusters. The beginning and end of the élevage was in concrete, and in between they used 2,000- and 4,100-liter oak vats and some 20% in glass demijohn and amphorae. The wine is subtle and a bit shy, insinuating rather than in your face. There is a lot less ripeness than in the past. It's medium-bodied and fluid, fresh and balanced. This is a very elegant Clos Martinet. 11,070 bottles and some larger formats produced. It was bottled in June 2020.

Super-elegant but really tight aglianico here with lightly peppery black fruit, colored with inky and spicy notes. With aeration, you move into the herbal zone, with fresh bay-leaf, chai and light rosemary. The palate is medium-to full-bodied and you feel all the aromas pent-up, ready to burst out. • Mazzei Concerto di Fonterutoli 2019 (6x75cl)

    Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (97)

This is savoury, dry in the best possible way, with a ton of red fruits, dried roses and herbs, and waves of fragrance. It’s a successful blend where the Sangiovese is dominant, conferring the wine with its warm personality but the Cabernet Sauvignon adds a touch of austerity to the tannins and a sense of quiet confidence. Turmeric and olive tapenade as it opens, alongside raspberry, red cherry and smoky oak, the whole thing both extremely delicate and intensely fragrant. Can drink now with a short carafe - there are tannins here but they are well defined and finely layered - but it will also age. Small amounts of the 2018 were released last winter, but this September sees the first proper release through the Place de Bordeaux. Ageing 18 months in small French oak barrels, 70% new, plus four months in concrete tanks afterwards. One to look out for - great stuff from the Mazzei family, that has been making wine in Tuscany since the 15th century.

Opulent and complex, with dark fruits such as plums and blackberries. Milk chocolate. Dried herbs too. Black olives. Stunning nose. Full bodied, with firm and chewy tannins, but a very creamy texture, and lots of milk chocolate, berry and mineral character. It goes on for minutes. Clear and powerful. Savory and salty. One of the best Massetos ever.

  • Masseto 2012 (3x75cl)

    James Suckling (99)

Fantastic aromas of lavender, rosemary, violets and currants. Full body, a wonderful concentration of fruit yet tense and taunt energy. The new wood is exposed now but will become integrated and polished. Give it three or four years together. The pure merlot magic is there. The 2011 was a perfect wine, and this is very close indeed. Drink in 2019.

  • Masseto 2017 (3x75cl)

    James Suckling (98)

The clarity of the ripe blackcurrants, black cherries and flowers in the nose is entrancing. Lavender, too. It’s full-bodied with firm, silky tannins that run long and straight through the wine, providing brightness and focus. Goes on for minutes. Strength with finesse Drink after 2024, but already wonderful to taste.

  • Massolino Barolo 2017 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (17)

Serralunga d'Alba. Youthful mid ruby. Beguiling nose of concentrated cherry, dark spice and minerally, stony notes. Shows real generosity on the nose. Palate equally generous, with concentrated, juicy sour-cherry fruit lined with long, powdery tannins. Hedonistic, for sure, and so confident! Ready now but will improve. Simply delicious and definitely one of the vintage's best buys.

  • Massolino Barolo Parafada 2017 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (17+)

Serralunga d'Alba. Youthful mid ruby. Savoury and minerally cherry fruit on the nose. Compact, sour-cherry palate that is elegant and lively, but still embryonic and with a rich layer of finely woven tannins. Cranberry and sour cherry of great length on the finish. The palate really lulls you into thinking you could approach it now.

  • Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici Riserva 2015 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (96)

Super-elegant but really tight aglianico here with lightly peppery black fruit, colored with inky and spicy notes. With aeration, you move into the herbal zone, with fresh bay-leaf, chai and light rosemary. The palate is medium-to full-bodied and you feel all the aromas pent-up, ready to burst out. The tension here is palpable and this will need several more years before the firm tannins soften, allowing the wine to open up and flood your palate. Still be patient. Try from 2024.

  • Mazzei Siepi 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (99)

The 2019 Siepi continues a trend towards greater finesse and nuance in this wine. Crème de cassis, lavender, spice, licorice and plum meld together effortlessly in the glass. Dense and layered, with striking detail, the 2019 is so impressive. The flavors are bright, bold and punchy. An exceptionally beautiful and riveting wine, the 2019 is rich and concentrated, but not at all heavy. What a total knock-out.

  • Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans 2020 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92-94)

Opening in the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, rose petals and sweet soil tones, the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Mitans is medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, concluding with a perfumed finish.
  • Michel Lafarge Volnay Vendanges Selectionnees 2020 (12x75cl)

    Burghound (90-93)

Outstanding Top value. This is aromatically similar to the straight Volnay but with more evidence spice and floral elements. There is outstanding intensity to the dense and powerful flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the impressively long, balanced and firmly structured finale. This is absolutely terrific for its level and easily boxes above its weight.
